Anybody else have a problem with cutting the cord on the circular saw? I have managed to do it three times in the past two weeks. Happens when I set the saw down and the little bitty 1″ space where the blade is exposed grabs the cords and sucks it in, wrapping it around the blade. So far I have been able to wrap a little tape around it and finsh the job, but this is getting old! (How many spliuces is too many, before it’s time to re-cord?)
Do it right, or do it twice.

This wouldn't be a PC would it? I bouhg that saw and promptly cut mine right off. So I borrowed my buddies laying right there - same saw, same results. The next week, I did it again.
It seems to be like hitting your thumb with the hammer. You've got it all sighted in good now so you keep hitting it!

I thought we would be talkin about cuttin firewood you know cause its time for it to cure and its the last call. I always try to cut a cord while Im gone fetchin.

funny, I was just looking at some trees last night that need to get pieced out.
CAG must cut cords. He's got another thread about making up a supply box with six feet of #10

Nope, got 2 PC saws, and yet to cut a cord on either.
I have cut the cord on a miter saw with my pc though...

Extension cords. Right after "somebody" used several #10's for saw horses to rip plywood.
how bout belt sander cords.......mine don't look to good. hehe
ELCID72-- I have cut the cord on my circ. saw, but it's been awhile. The one that really scared me was my little Bosch electric plane. I had it about a day when I got the cord caught in the blades while planing . It took close to an hour to pry the cord out and tape it up so I could finish. I was amazed how fast those blades sucked that cord right up.
Sounds like everybody here has the idea, except ol' Steve...he talks about keeping a spare parts box in the trruck! So do I...a roll of electrical tape...works great for a day or two.
Yes Pif, it's a PC blade left. Seems to be a problem when I'm working outside and the cord is laying in the grass...that way it's elevated just enough for the blade to suck it in.
Shep, I haven't cut the cord with the planer. However, I did manage to set the planer down on the air hose one time. Talk about getting your attention! BTW how did you manage to get the cord wrapped around the planer drum? I have the Bosch planer, and there's very little clearance. Must have been fun to unwrap.
Do it right, or do it twice.
ELCID72-- yeah, it was quite a job unwinding that cord. I wouldn't have thought it could fit around the drum either if I hadn't done it myself. I was just glad that I was working by myself that day so no one could here my language while I tryed to unwind things (also glad there were no kids around-I don't want to explain some of the words I might have used). I also try to keep the cord up over my shoulder now. I guess some old dogs can learn new tricks. Its one reason why I like Breaktime; I hope to learn from others mistakes so I don't do to many stupid things <G>
Done the cut the circular saw cord thing and wrap the cord around the belt sander thing. Wife thinks the best is when I showed up at her job and asked if I could call the phone co. from there. Course she asked why and I told her, was trimming the hedge from the ladder, tall hedge, and cut the phone line. She laughed her head off and promptly explained to the phone rep exactly what her brilliant husband had done.Let's not confuse the issue with facts!
I keep the circ saw cord looped around the back of my neck to keep it out of the way. Now the belt sander cord, I've made that sucker squirm more than once. And I recently cut a live cable in a wall with the circ saw, armored stuff; sparks flew out like a Fourth of July spectacular, until the breaker popped.

Like Allen said.......you should only see the cord on my PC belt sander. What a joke. Covered in tape from top to bottom.....Thank god for cordless tools.

My father's circular saw cord always looked like a Revolutionary War veteran. Me, I guess I learned by example. The only circular saw cord I ever cut was on a 15" Makita when I was briefly bending tin for a living -- right after the carpenters who loaned it to me warned me I'd die a horrible death if I nicked the cord. Turns out they were lying, but I sure learned some new words that day.
Well, I tried something new this last weekend... instead of damaging the cord with the tool I damaged the tool with the cord.
Brand new multi-speed grinder less than five minutes out of the box. I laid it down, walked over to another corded tool attached to an extension cord, yanked the cord to get a little more length and pulled my new grinder off the edge of the stair well opening with it.
Nine feet straight down to concrete got me a busted case on the new grinder that a whole roll of electrical tape wont fix.

did ya try duct tape instead of electrical...??
well, go tell us about the new grinder you just bought to replace the busted one over in the new tools thread. :)

Actually, it still works fine. I'm sure the busted case will allow more contaminants to get inside and reak havock, shortening the life of the tool. I may pop for some JB Weld to seal it back up but, for the moment I plan to just keep grinning and grinding till she quits.
Just to make matters worse, I dang near threw a knee out kicking myself in the rear end too.Kevin Halliburton

If you were less than scrupulous, you would pack it pack in its box and take it to HD. Can't be any worse than some of the garbage they sell new. Once picked a copper fitting out of a box, it already had solder in it!
I never met a tool I didn't like!
Yea, scruples limit the options a bit but I've got a pillow calling my name right now and me head won't be on it long before I'm sound asleep.
I could spend a lot more than my newly cracked grinder cost and not buy that kind of peace.
Besides, I've bought "returned" items that cost me a ton in time, money and frustration and I'm not anxious to give up my right to seriously resent the low-lifes that stuck me with 'em. :-)>Kevin Halliburton

You can heat up a soldering gun to weld a case back together, more or less..

I've done that several times on plastic but this is cast metal. I wouldn't think solder would be nearly as effective as JB Weld in this instance. Kevin Halliburton

Un believable!
A tool with a metal case? What'll they think of next?
Of course, your event proves that it isn't as solid as good old fashioned American Made Plastic.

I have a 100' extension cord that was all taped up at one end from various cuts and nicks. I finally thought I'd fix it right and put on a new plug. A couple of days ago when I pulled it out to use it I realized I now have an extension cord with two male ends! I did such a good job with the new end I may just cutoff the old side and put the new female end there. I'll tell my wife that it wasn't a mistake, I just want to extend the life of the cord by switching the electron flow every once in a while. LOL ;)
