I have a stud existing stud that has such a bow in it (i’d say its 3/4″ – 1″) that I have to do something before I hang the drywall.
Is the time and effort of cutting a kerf worth it? Does it really work? Or should I just knock the stud out and spend the $2.68 on a new one?
Thanks

Bearing wall? Cut the kerf on the concave side and put a wedge in it. Nonbearing? Cut the outside face and wedge it or bend it back and sister across the cut. Both cases cut 1/2 thru.
Can't get to the backside of a bearing stud? Replace it.

If there`s no wiring or piping running through it currently, it would seem silly to bother trying to salvage it to me.

Assuming the ends are in the right place, can you push the middle to the right place with blocking? If not, knock it out and put in a good one. It won't really cost you the whole $2.68, the old one you can cut up for blocking elsewhere.

Yeah I knocked it out, and intersting enough, I did use the knocked out board in a blocking application. Funny how that works out.
I actually just finished the taping and first coat of compound on the wall last night.
