I have been getting increasingly frustrated with my 1″ driver tips for a screwgun. It seems that most brands strip out at the first hint of stress. I know that square drive is optimal, but unfortunately the rest of the world doesn’t so sometimes we’re forced to use phillips. Does anybody have any brands that really last?

Jon, these people have every bit you could want. Good quality, excellent service too. They sell more strange stuff than you can think of, IF you know what it's called. Joe H

I don't know what type of screws you are planning to use but I have had very good luck with the Deckmate screws and tips that come with them. They come in a pretty decent size selection from HD, (I know, I know) but are a bit expensive.
There use to be bits made with carbide grit included. Name like "Grit Edge". I used one and was impressed. I was unable to get another and despite trying to track down a source can't find the product. Does anyone have any ideas where I could find such a beast? Thanks in advance for your help.
The bit you are referring to was made by RemGrit. I bought a package of them and couldn't wear them out, but then they disappeared from the market. They were great for deck screws and you could drive a 3" screw head clear thru the board with out camming out!!
How do I get my grubby mitts on a few of these puppies? I tried running a Google and Jeeves on "Remgrit". Seems to be manufactured by Disston. The Disston page takes me to:

On none of these sites do I see anything dealing with anything but saw blades, mostly hole saws. I guess I will have to e-mail this and ask. I lost that tip long ago and only had one. It was remarkable enough that I still remember it vaguely. Why, if it was as good as I remember would it not still be made? Hmm.
If you find them let me know. I've even emailed RemGrit direct. I'd like some more.
I talked to a guy at the Woodworking show last year who said they are available in Europe but I haven't been able to find them
If I find any I'll let you know.
This seems to be a repeating theme in my life. About the time I get a taste of something really good or even get comfortable with a particular make or model, not limited to tools here, whoever makes or makes it available stops. It's a capitalist plot I tell you. :-)
