HI, My first time. I’m trying to find an old artical on deck ledger to house. I think it was in FHB about 1 to 1 1/2 years ago. Any one know where I can find/retreive this article?

This centuries-old paint offers vapor-permeabiity, maintainability, and longevity with zero VOCs, but know its limitations before you get to work.

Tuck.,
FHB, June/July 2004.
BTW, there are a couple of super articles on this subject in the JLC in the last couple of years if you have access.

Thanks a million. That's what I was looking for, and I found my old magazine too. Since you were so helpful, can I try another one on you? I posted a request for input on flashing an exterior swing door. Any good articles on this? For the full story you can read my posting under general construction. My contractor and I are having some strong disagreances. Thanks for the info you already provided, I'm copying article as we speak to bring to my contractor.PS: this is a wonderful way to learn! I've never used online discussion groups before, but will be a dedicated participant from now on!
A thousand pardons; I just received notice of your post. :-(
Don't know about specific articles, but the main issue is to keep the level of the deck or porch outside this door at least 1" lower than flashed opening for door. In general, I'd flash the rough opening like a window.
You probably have an ally in the Manufacturer's Installation Guidelines. Read them all the way through. Especially about a door pan or heavy duty flashing under the door.

Flashing an exterior swing door.
I would flash it above as I would any door or window.
I would set the bottom of the door in a bed of exterior silicone caulking, to seal under the threshold. The flashing below is not for the door, it is for the wall mounted ledger board. I would keep the ledger board and deck 3" min below the threshold of the door, preferably 5".
I would also not recommend an exterior swing door with exposed hinges as they will soon deteriorate and the door will begin to show problems.Gord
