If you have a deck with two out of the four sides butting up against the house would you attached two ledger boards to eth house? Or would you attach one ledger board and the hang a parallel beam directly on teh house.
Ok, a picture would be great, but alas …
Ok, it is a small proch like deck, 16 feet along the house reaching out only six feet. So it is pretty obvious that a 16 foot ledger baord should be attached the house. The outside 16 foot rim joist (beam ??) needs to attach to teh house and the other end hung on an 8 x 8 post running from footing up to a beam at the roof. So should that rim joist or beam be hung on the house and the post with consealed joist hangers and forget a 6 foot ledger board at teh house? And if so, would you run siding down to the mud sill and up the wall at teh 6 foot section?

That was not my question
Yes, I would have a ledger board the long direction (16 feet) with joist running out from teh ledger board (6 feet). The question is, is it required to attach a 6 foot ledger board to the house 90 degrees to teh main ledger board (parallel to all teh other joists)? i would think not.
Quesiton?
Thank you fro your kind and thoughtful reply.
Yes it is a deck in an inside corner. You have point about having the flasing detail the same on the two wall junctures. As for a post at the house side, I was planning on using a hanger on the rim joist. The rim joist is not going anywhere and teh deck is small so I would not expect pull out to be an issue. Not to mention that for it to pull away the entire deck would have to rack as it is fully attached to the ledger and all of the deck boards attached to 15 or so joists.
Thanks again for a kind reply. Great to have food for thought on planning these projects.
