We’re about to build a second story deck for a client.
He has a hot tub at ground level, which the deck will cover.
he would like to protect the tub from direct rain and snow.
There will be enough head room to fit corrugated sun panels beneath the decking, but that doesn’t seem like a very elegant solution.
Any other suggestions?

Hey, Nikki--
You need to explain to the client that a deck is not a roof, and a roof is not a deck. They perform two different functions. If he wants both functions, you'll have to build him a deck on top of a roof.
As luck would have it, there's another thread going on right now about how to do that. Take a look here. http://forums.taunton.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=tp-breaktime&msg=75721.1
That oughta answer most of the how-to questions.
If all he wants is to shed most of the crap falling outta the sky (and off the deck), but he doesn't require it to be completely waterproof, go with the wavy stuff. Sometimes practical has to win over elegant (ideally, to save dough for something elegant where it'll be more important...). Don't let him talk you into sheathing the deck over with so-called 'Deck Plywood' or setting t&g deck boards tight; it won't really be waterproof but it will pool, then shred, then rot...and you'll be doin' it over in a few years (maybe at yer own expense).

We're not talkin' waterproof here, just something to avoid getting dripped (or snowed) on. Didn't I see something at HD a couple of years ago for this purpose? I think they were touting it for people who were trying to use the area below a deck for storage.********************************************************

Check out Duradek. http://WWW.durdek.com
I figured out the link is for:http://www.duradek.com/From what I could tell, this is some sort of vinyl sheet product that is installed over the top of a decking surface. Do you know if they have something that could be used beneath the deck? I couldn't find anything on their web site.********************************************************

I have seen a plastic product that goes under the deck in curved panels between joists that directs the water that gets through the deck out to the front. I wrote about it a year or so ago here in response to a similar question. I no longer remember what it was called, but seem to recall it was advertised in a magazine--maybe even FHB? Maybe a search of past discussions will bring up answers.
