Hi, guys, I’m building a laundry room off the house which gives me a view of downtown LA, when I put a deck in. I only have 8 inches to play with for thickness. I thought I would put in a torchdown underlaymnent with a 1/4″ a foot slope (about 6 feet total length) and a floating wood or trex deck over it. However my roofer is not liking that. A tile floor is an option (I’ve done many a shower pan) but is there any easy way with the wood? A 20 year roof is fine, I’m not building the ghetty center here. Cost is a major thing. Any advice would be greatly welcomed. Burns

Check out their Miraflex decking system. A thin (3/4") concrete waterproof decking system that goes over (at least) a 5/8" exterior plywood over your regular joists.
It'll use the 1/4 slope just fine. Flash properly.
I'm in the process of installing such a beast now at the stepson's house. (Of course, I've been at it for the last 3 months getting the rest of the picture put together.)
You'll note that they are just around the corner from you, just N. of Santa Monica.
They have a nice 2 or 3 day training program for installers. I did the 2 day deal last fall.
Thanks for the info, good luck with your project. burns

Before commenting, I would want to know whyyour roofer is not liking it.. He may have a good objective reason that you are not sharing with us, or it may be simple personl prejudice.
