Hello,
I’m trying to plan for a small entry deck with a small roof covering the deck. A drawing is attached. Ideally I think it would be best to have the post extend all the way from the footing through the deck and beam and up to the roof. However I cant find anything in the 2018 IRC that mentions a similar situation. The top of the deck is about 30″ above grade, and the roof where the post will support it is 10′ above grade.
1. Is this “common practice” to have a one piece post like this?
2. Is this something that will satisfy code?
Thank you for the help!

Did you ever figure this out? I'm trying to figure out a similar situation and the only thing I've been able to find is this page:
https://www.decks.com/how-to/articles/how-to-use-shared-load-deck-support-posts
But it's a bit light on details on calculating load bearing capacity of a notched post. I'm having troubling answering questions like: does a 6x6 with a 1.5" notch act like a 4x6? or does it retain the load bearing capacity of of a 6x6 since the notch is filled with the first level beam
