I was hoping someone could help me. My deck add on is finished now but want to deck skirt underneath with 5/4 ” deck boards running horizontally. I am trying to come up with a way of framing this due to the fact that the deck supports underneath run to the edge of deck as pictured. I don’t want to hide the deck fascia either, which may be a problem. Any ideas?

As you can see the deck supports are 2x8s and the frame is 2x6s.
Run the skirting vertically along that side.
Not for me
Both those side will be the focus, not a big fan of the vertical look.
Frame up "walls" from 2x4s
Frame up "walls" from 2x4s and lag them up into the bottom of the stringers with the recess you desire, then skin it with the skirt material of your choice
Question
What about the deck supports? You would still see them, wouldn't I?
Hi there, I would frame cripple walls flush with the rim down to the top of your footings at 2' oc. Then install the horizontal screening before the skirtboard/fascia. The fascia would then install over the screening material. Alternately, you can pad out the rim the thickness of the 5/4 screening, install the fascia and then install the screening tucked into the space you created. I may cobble together a quick sketch if this isn't clear, or what you are looking for.
Heres' a quick sketch of what I was describing. I would strongly recommend taping the top of all the framing after installing the trim to keep moisture out of all of these layers of trim etc. also. Good luck
Followed your method. Thank you
Frame up supports for the skirting, then apply narrow vertical lath to the framing before you attach the horizontal skirting. Place the top row of skirting so it will be flush with the bottom of the decking. Extend your decking out over the top edge of the skirting, and a little beyond.
If the lath is positioned properly it should drain naturally, minimizing concern about moisture trapped behind the skirting, especially along the top rim.
Nice job Dave. Looks nice. Glad I could help.
