I’m attaching deck stair stringers to a concrete landing. The stringers will be nailed to two sleepers which will be attached to the concrete pad.
I’m wondering how to attach the sleepers to the concrete. I’ve considered Redhead Truebolt anchors, but am concerned about corrosion, since they’re only zinc plated. Can I get by with using 1/2″ galvanized lag bolts and some lead anchors?
Also, when resting the pressure treated stringers on the sleepers, is it OK to have them in direct contact, or should I stick in a spacer of some sort to avoid water collecting at that location?
Thanks,
Leon

Get by with 1/2" galv lags? I think that is overkill considering the application, but why not stainless lags.
Another option would be drill a slightly undersized hole and pound stainless nails into it. There shouldn't be any withdrawal loads on them.

Thanks, Tom. You are right, there is no withdrawal load, only shear, and even that is probably fairly small. I guess I was thinking 1/2" simply because smaller ones "feel" wimpy. But maybe I will step down to a 1/4" or 3/8" lags (I'll stay with galvanized, I think that should be more than adequate for corrosion).
