We want to add non-structural beams to one of our rooms(see diagram). There would be 4 of them.
The options in my area for supplies appear to be limited.
Of course I could order from the north, yet at prices ranging from $15-$65 lf, for a 6×6 rustice real wood beam (not including shipping) can get costly.
I really do not have the skills to “make” them from stock, joining the edges, etc, plus we really want the hand hewn rustic appearance. You know the tobacco barn beam look?
What I have found so far is that one can order the real McCoy, with the center hollowed out for attachment to the ceiling(a), which is quite pricey. And the full beam(b) spanning the room, cheaper, but obviously heavier (mouting issues)
The faux styro stuff appears somewhat cheaper, yet I hadn’t been able to locate a solid beam (b) in styro and certainly not sure if they have the true look we desire.
What options do I have? Where in the heckfire could I begin to find the necessary natural materials down here (S. Florida)?
Sorry if the rudimetary drawing isn’t a good visual.

Have you considered using masonry planks?
They're rough sawn spruce (I think).....light weight...got some knots....stain em up a color....real rustic look. Quite inexpensive also.

Interesting, even though i have never heard of "masonry planks"
Rough sewn lumber. How could I forget about that!!
I bet I could manage that around here.
