Six months ago, I’m zipping in some screws to a subfloor when the phillips bit slips off the screw and makes a crater in my left pointer finger pad. Only about a month ago did the nerve completely heal.
Today, same finger, same spot, same result (blood all over the place.)
I have got to remember to wear glove/s…
Is it just me, or has this happened to anyone else?

I have a quickdrive. Was getting ready to put down some Ditra and was throwing in some additional screws. Today I was trying to put a SS screw thru an L-bracket with the hole just a shade too small.
Sucks when you know the bit is spinning in your finger but your reflexs haven't responded yet.

You do have a quikdrive? So what do your toes look like?? :-)
Seriously, sorry to hear about your finger, that's gotta hurt.
I used to do that. Get a magnetic bit and match it to the screw. Most of all,do not put your left hand in harms way. Mine bears years of scars and stupid moves, but I stil got my digits. Situational awareness.

I've done it before while framing with metal studs. Keep it clean, punctures are easy to get infected.

Trust in God, but row away from the rocks.

and it stinks cause you know, who gets hurt with a driver bit? So we dont think we will, and zip.
I learned years ago to keep one hand away from what the other was doing when I stuck a chisel clean through the web. Duh. I seem to have to keep getting booster reminders though. Boy, that was one nice sharp chisel though.

you don't have a monopoly on that trick...
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming

Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
It's not just you, I do it often.
Sometimes are worse than others. Each time I just say X marks the spot.
Years ago I put a square drive tip through my ring finger nail. Split the nail and my fingertip in two. I've seen hamburger less ground up than my finger was.
Lately I start my screws with my hammer and the self inflicted injuries have decreased.

An extra step, but one that might be worth the cost, I think.

It actually speeds things up, at least it feels like it. You take the time that you spend getting the screw to grab and exchange it for hitting it with a hammer.
It also works good when you are screwing off barn steel.
