Steve, there are at least two options available that might be better than cedar. First, the Hardie-Plank people now make trim pieces made just for this purpose and from the same Hardie-Plank material. Check their website for more info. Before I found the Hardie-Plank material, I used 5/4 PT deck lumber to make my outside corners. If you can pick and choose the lumber for the corners and can let it dry a little before you install it, it works just fine. I also always assemble my corners first with polyurethane glue before I install them on the building. Good luck.

I jsut did a few squares of the Hardie Plank and used the PVC board for the inside and outside corners. It comes in 4/4 and 5/4 thincknesses and 4, 6, & 8 widths. Its the kind of stuff that you paint once -- saws and routs like knot free white pine.

Look for TAMLYN vinyl products. They make a whole line of complimentary vinyl products for Hardiboard, including inside & outside corners. I believe they are on the WWW somewhere.

Will be putting up about 12 squares of 12" Hardi-Board lap siding next week. Our first experience with this product was today when we put up facia. Very pleased with the result. With the siding we will have to detail inside and outside corners. The material is about 7/16 thick so projection at the lap will be about 1". We are using Hardi-Board to create a low maintenance exterior. I an not particularly concerned about using 1" square cedar to detail the inside corners but the outside corners are more problomatic. I was thinking about casing the corners with doubled up rippings of Hardi-Board. Considering how hard this stuff is on saw blades I would like to find another option. Any ideas out there?
