Anyone have one?
I heard they had some issues with the initial release and supposely fixed them.
Toolcrib has refurb’d models for about 350 I’m thinking of buying one.
Delta also has a 13″ two speed but it does not appear to be as nice as the dewalt.
This would be my first dewalt purchase in a while, shame Bosch doesn’t make a planer.

saw an article that the were coming out of the same factory...

I've heard that it's a nice planer, but real heavy. I have the one speed model and am happy with it. Mine weighs in at 80 pounds. I think the two speed model is upwards of 100 pounds.

I've got the two speed Dewalt planer and I'm very pleased with it. I ended up buying the Dewalt shop stand with retractable castors for it. It made a big difference. I was able to avoid lifting it from one area to another. I still have to lift it sometimes but a lot less. It is heavy! In fact, it has a warning that two people should lift it!

I've got one, and I love it. Very nice set up and easy to use.

I have the DW 13" 2 speed. I like it and have had no problems with it. BTW it is heavy (100lbs). Not my favorite tool to load in the morning either.
Easily good enough to snap up for $350. Weighs enough to hurt your back. The fan throws chips on the outfeed side so hard they sting your face... I would literally recommend a woodturners face shield.
Definitely not a heavy duty machine but my background is with the older 20" cast iron Rockwell/Delta , 24" Yates American, a 36" Powermatic, and a friend's Martin ($20K give or take).... stuff that would plane steel plate. If you need to surface thousands of feet of ipe you might want to get something beefier.
Changing the blades on the DeWalt is easy, as they are pin registered. That alone is enough to persuade me. If you've ever changed blades on typical planer cutterheads using a dial indicator or those magnetic jigs you know what I mean.
It never occured to me to look in that end. I always stay out of the way like a sissy.LOL I saw an adapter they make in lew of dust collection it feeds it into a 30 gallon garbage can. I spotted it at Lowes one day but was interested in something else and didn't pay much attention. But I'll get one.

I've used that planer extensively... standard dust chute, not the dust collector setup (which would be THE way to go if possible). Stand 8' away, trying to catch a piece of 1x8 on outfeed and the planer will be pelting you with chips. It's a PITA. The good part is that you can set it up in a garage doorway and it will shoot the chips clear outside. For short stuff you can stand on the side of the machine and reach around to grab your work.
I don't have the DeWalt, but I do have an old Belsaw that's a chip shooter. I duct taped a piece of heavy plastic over the outfeed end that hangs down to the table. Knocks the chips down on the board...could be a little too low tech, though <G> Don't worry, we can fix that later!
I have had the 1 speed for several years, changed the blades several times and just hook up my dedicated shop vac to the dust hood. Only problems I've had are when the vacuum gets filled and I am slow to empty! Otherwise, it works great.
I've heard complaints about the blades wearing out quick.
Anyone have that trouble, or were those on the earlier models?
I have three pairs that I have rotated through. I don't think they've worn out quickly. I just ran some maple through for a bookshelf and it did fine...haven't changed the blades in several months. I'm happy.

Hi CAG!
I've also got the DW735 planer, and I love it. DEFINATLY get the DW7353 chip collection accessory - it's a 4" hose with attached drawstring bag set-up that captures most if not all of the chips into a trash can.
I got the machine for a pickled cypress exposed rafter 'n v-joint ceiling patio roof - the HO loved the end results - it made us look like we knew what the heck we were doing!

Blades do wear, but at 40 bucks a set they're not bad.
wheighs 90lbs. Had a little trouble with the rollers getting gummed up when planing
lots of pine. Overall it's a nice tool.
Got the delta love it..the Default was having problems with the gearing taking a dump..
Dont care for the chip collection adapt for the delta heard the dewalt had better chip collection..
If you buy one get the refurbished at least that way the gear problem might have been repaired. but I have heard of people complaining about the gearing problem happening more than once
http://www.woodworking.org there was some talk about this by some of the w/w'ers there
good board also very knowledgable people no politics or flames but they can answer this question. Buckism: the way to inner peace
