After 15+ years it’s time to retiring my trusty Hitachi 8 1/2″ miter saw to the shop for basic rough cutting. Have a Dewalt 12″ slider not real inpressed w/ the quality, there is to much play in the head for stain grade trim work. Came accrossed the dewalt 8 1/2″ slider in the tool shop yesterday $399. & it looks solid & might be a good replacement for the Hitachi.
Looking for any feed back, Hate to spend the money & be dissapointed again!
Thanks in advance

Makita 7 1/2 miter saw
Since you liked your old Hitachi 8 1/2, I think you would be more than happy with the Makita LS0714 7 1/2" miter saw. It is small, light and very accurate. The stock blade is OK but a Forrest blade makes it an exceptionally nice cutting saw. It has two sets of sliding rails that allows for suprising cutting capacity. While it is a little pricey, I think it is a good value for money.
It is my "go to" saw over my Bosck 10" and it replaced my old Dewalt (Elu) 8 1/2" saw which I used for several years and which I originally chose over the Hitachi 8 1/2.
good choice
i do strictly trimwork and some cabinets, i also used an 8 1/2 elu for years, and replaced it with the 8 1/2 dewalt. personally i dont like the big 12" saws, i find them to heavy and awkward. the dewalt is a good size and havent had any problems with it as far as getting loose or out of sync. the mechanism that holds the mitre between the mitre stops could hold a little better but other than that. i would go with the dewalt. 399 is a good price, we dont get that up in canada
