I need batts like ASAP, almost all of mine are old enough to drink, and I gotta grind in flashing.
So, would ya spring for the new Lith Ions or the old ones? New lith is 149.00 for 1 batt. and charger I think. I can get 2 maybe old ones for that…
cast yer votes.
I gotta pull the trigger tomorrow, no mailorder time..its Lowes or Homedepot I guess.

Well, Mmoogie and I run the Makitas and most of the time
they are hands down better then the old batteries.
Today, we were fighting over outlets to keep them charged. Warm
blooded son of a guns.
If you don't drop below forty, then yes upgrade.

well, that isn't what I want to hear. I DO work in the cold..real cold.
Ya think ALL LI's do that as bad as Makita? How we gonna have cars run on batts?
I do need a new hammer drill, I could maybe just buy that in LI or old style , and get two ?
Not wanting to change platform completely , I have too many Dw's to go doing that right now.
So I await more votes.

Well, I had Dewalt 18 v for a long time, till they all seemed to break down at the same time, so I am trying out the Panasonic 14.4 LiIon. Very light and compact, I'd never go back just because of that, but as far as longevity goes, who knows? They all work great for the first year or so. It's long term that matters more to me, so we'll see...
All the tool bodies , 9 or 10...are fine except for the hammer drill, which I used pretty hard hanging downpouts on stone and brick.
I think it was 05 when I got most, that was the date on most of my batts. I've had some newer and some older..but the # of charge cycles is the killer. I use this stuff almost daily in one way or another.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

I have about 9 of the old style Dewalt 18v and 2 of the LI (over 1 year old )purchased as part of a Hammer drill and Impact driver combo kit .It is a pretty good kit -the batteries are sooo Light with the same power. The LI are OK in the cold for me- SE. PA but I take the batteries inside overnight when itis below freezing. I also have too many Dewalt 18v to switch brands. What kind of run time do you get with the grinder ? I went thru 4 batteries today in a very
short period of time.
I can get maybe 20-30' of kerf in mortar on a good battery. 1/2" deep with a diamond blade.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

I guess that about equals my 15 t0 20 - 1/2 hardened steel studs.
You will really like the Nanos up on the roof- very light. Bring a spare because they give no
warning when they need a charge they just shut OFF.
Good luck.
Ha!
Yup, no warning with those newbies, and I hear that running them down is a big no no. I can hear it coming on the impact driver but the drill/driver sneaks
up on you.
Generally LiIon batteries contain some "smarts" internally that will shut them off when they're too far discharged. This is why they give you no warning. (It's also why they need their own special charger.)

Damm, now I pulled the trigger on the hammerdrilll recon, with 2 nanos...199.oo from Toolking.
So for 500bucks I just got 3 nano batts, 2 new chargers, and 2 old style batts and a hammer drill.

We just put the Li batts inside our jackets when it's cold, doesn't take long to warm 'em up.http://www.tvwsolar.com
We'll have a kid
Or maybe we'll rent one
He's got to be straight
We don't want a bent one
He'll drink his baby brew
From a big brass cup
Someday he may be president
If things loosen up
I'm skinney and drop production below 15, so I doubt I'll have too many issues.
I also can go day on end not needing drills or saws, being as I am installing a lot of copper in my future...snips and hammer time for the most part.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

I would buy 2 more regular batteries and then when the right deal on online companies is outthere I would buy a reconditioned set for around 300$
Seen some of these sets on toolking.com.

I have bosch 12v li-ion and it has sworn me off of Li-ion, just a few weeks ago its gotten down to around 40 overnight and those suckers are totaly dead in the morning. I would like to be diciplined enough to bring them inside but it just dosent always happen. It was then that I decided I wouldnt be able to upgrade to all Li-ion as long as I live in the cold, we have 7 months where the batteries would be useless outside.
I'll keep the Ni-whatever at least they hold a charge for a while in the cold.
I just finished building a deck and ended up using 2 drivers quite a bit. One was a Rigid 14V impact driver (reg battery), and the other was a small bosch screwdriver ( 10.8 volt Lith Ion) which is what I had to use to drive almost all of the deck screws because it was the only way I could drive the screws for the hidden fasteners from the underside of the deck.
Aside from being impressed that this tiny tool could drive the deck screws, I was completely astonished to find that the battery lasted at least 2 times... perhaps 3 times as long as the much larger battery of the impact driver. The difference between the Li Ion and the regular battery was incredible. Next time I need batteries, it will no question be Li Ion for me.
Far as I understand, the cold is a limitation because of the LiOn technology, not the particular manufacturer.
So if Grant's making you work with the Eskimos, I'd go for the old style ones.
The plus on the LiOn ones is that they'll take more/more frequent charges, and are lighter. Power should be about the same as NiMH.

I believe the old style is where I'm headed.
I opened one up to see about putting new HF batts inside Ala Junk Hound, but they are all soldered to a large plate and the config due to release tabs would require a LONG time of swapping cells, I can buy a new batt. for the time involved.

I took everyone's advice.
I got 2 old style ( 119.00)
and 1 new Li Ion and charger ( 179.00)
14 bucks less than a new hammer drill w/ 2 Li Ion batts and charger ( 329.00)
Next pay day, I get the recon kit hammer time drill and 2 batts in Li Ion, I should be set for awhile.
and stay home when its cold.
Thanks all who helped me drop 315 bucks (G)
