If I’d known my DeWalt radio/charger was going to sound so bad…
That little makita unit seems to sound really really good every time I pass it in the tool aisles…
Pathetic that I might actually try to get rid of all my DeWalt stuff on craig’s list just so I can have a better sounding radio.

My Dewalt radio sounds great. Clearest static i've ever heard. I have the old model with the better antenna. There are not too many places where I get good reception and I live in Metro Detroit.
Family.....They're always there when they need you.
I agree

Ahhhhhh,,,,,,,,,,,, the old radio charger won't pick up a station to save its life problem. Let me save you years of time and piles of cash. Plug in a MP3 player, better yet go get a Zune down load some Larry the cable guy, a little George Carlon, add a few podcasts and create a kick #### music list and rock away the day.
PS to add i always find motorheads "Ace of Spades" nice for hanging rock
I have a 30gig iPod that crashed and got a new hard drive and batt under warranty, I have had it back for months and have not reloaded the music. I bought a little Sansa 4 gid thing 1/3 the size and love it.
I have the Milwaukee radio but live in radio he11, mountains of NC. If working with my partner (life partner) I use the mp3 with it if we can not get any decent music (60s/70's). Dear wife of 42 yrs and I switch back and forth to some country and oldies. I have two of the radio ear muff/protectors, one has mp3 input. I use that if in noisy situation. For those who have fought for it Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.
Oh it picks up stations... and I've got the ipod... my problem is that it still sounds like ####.
and...
Ace of Spades--agreed.
"You gotta run it up the flagpole 'n see who salutes it"
lemmy.
my old DeWalt sounds pretty good ... actually thinking of buying one new battery after I've got rid of all the dewalt batt tools ...
but ... that little Mak does sound great.
and seeing as how I have all new Mak cordless ...
just can't seem to toss the dewalt till it goes bad ... or sounds bad ...
and it just keeps on ticking.
I'm not so sure the Makita will be as durable.

I've got the old school Dewalt as well.
Built like a tank....well...as far as radios go anyway.
Sound is decent....picks up most every station here in suburban NY.
Never really been too concerned with sound quality of a radio on a jobsite though.

yeah .... I'm not looking for a concert hall.
I like it because it's fairly water/weather proof.
Looked hard at that Makita ... pretty sure I'd not leave it outside in a snow storm, which I do with the DeWalt occasionally. It's been rained, snowed and ice storm'd on.
Left outside for weeks on end ... left loose to rattle around inside the truck or simply thrown on top of the demo piled in there.
it also makes for real nice impromptu saw horse.
or set it up on the side, set a 12x12 tile, or 2x 12 off cut on top ... instant lunch table.
was just thinking about finding the wife's old mp3 player and loading up my stuff.

I've had my DeWalt radio/charger for a long time and it sounds fine.I received a Bosch two years ago from a guy that owed me about twice what the Bosch costs. Not exactly the settlement I had in mind, but it's more than I expected. (BTW-I don't have any Bosh cordless tools.)It's a great radio, but it's like new, and I can't bring myself to take it to a jobsite til the DW wears out.Which, if my 17 year old DeWalt 12V cordless drill is any indication, won't be for a long time.Amazes me how many guys crack on DeWalt, doesn't reflect my experience at all.John Svenson, builder, remodeler, NE Ohio
I hear the same same thing time and time again about DeWalt this and DeWalt this but like you I have a number of DeWalt tools and they keep just going and going. I have a Dewalt 12volt that has seen bad times commerical door hanging driving screws till I couldn't hold the drill drive it got so hot. Grabbed it this morning and drove about twenty drywall screws it's about 6 or 7 years old and gets used everyday
I loved my Dewalt cordless stuff ... just all the batt's seemed to die at the same time and I wanted to try the new Makita Lit Ion stuff.
Love the new Mak stuff now, but doesn't mean the dewalt stunk all those years!
I'm firmly convinced those who complain the loudest about tools are those that know the least about running them.

I have found Dewalt to be pretty reliable for the most part.
Certainly not the best tools available......but among the best in their price range.
It also comes down to the individual tools themselves.
I've got a cordless drill that won't die......but I also had a drywall gun that I would have left behind at the end of the job had it not died halfway through.
