Having recently purchased a Dewalt 18v rt. angle drill, I was surprised at the fact that it seemed to have stripped gears right out of the box. Returned to Toolking, I went and bought the Kit at Home Desparate. “testing” it out in the workshop, I managed to strip the gears on that one also! So back it went, and I purchased the Dewalt 18v. recip saw.
I noticed some things- Both tools retail for 199.99. But the Reciprocating saw has only one battery(The better XRP battery) while the Drill had 2 batteries(Cheaper, lower amp hr. XR packs)
I also have the flexible worklight, which came with 1 XRP battery.
I am very impressed with the saw as opposed to the drill. Hindsight being 20/20, I might have been hard on the drill. I tried to use a shorty 3/4 inch auger, and a larger speedbor. Obviously this tool is only for use with spade bits of 3/4 or less.
I am not so impressed with the fit of the battery in the charger- very wobbly… I am debating on the purchase of a right angle drill again, realizing that I need to keep to spade bits of 3/4 or less.
The recip saw has that neat 4 position blade clamp that is being debated in another post.
I was thinking of additional 18v. tools that I would buy, but the experience with the angle drill has me second guessing. I guess I am just spoiled with my 14.4 volt Makita tools. My MXT drill was able to turn the bit that stripped the dewalt Rt. angle drills gear!

I have almost every 18 volt dewalt out there and for the most part I am happy.I am still waiting for a sander and I would buy the rigid impact rt angle over the dewalt.
Ask about any and I will enlighten.

Do you have the 18v screwgun? How about the cutoff tool?
I have the cutoff tool but I have never used it got it for 40$ and just use the battery and charger. Will have to try it out now that you reminded me.Hey do you mean the grinder I have 2 of them one with a sander disk one with a metal cutting blade I blike them alot.
I haven't got the srewgun but have 2 impact drivers and 3 hammerdrills, unless theres a killer deal on one I probably won't.I do so little sheetrock that the I drivers suffice.

I have the 18 volt screw gun, it is a little on the heavy side but I would not live without it now. You know the routine, two guys, two drywall guns, and a rotozip. Big pain with the cords getting tangled. Now it is two guys, two heavy cordless screw guns and a cordless router. No pain in the butt cords.
Have a good day

Been in the business for 35 years & have had no luck with Dewalt tools.
They just won't go hard & have a very short life span.
Stick with M&M(Milwaukee &Makita) &you can't go wrong.
Gotta agree with you somewhat- That 18v rt. angle drill couldn't spin a 3/4 stubbie auger. I am fine with that. But the fact that it stripped the gears so easily rather than just stopping...Poor.
I've got alot of Dewalt 18v stuff. The only thing that just should've never been built is the recip saw. The thing really likes to blow shaft bushings.
I just got a recip saw with the $ from returning the drill... So far, so good.
Oh it'll kick butt for a good long while. I just meant to say that of all my DW 18v stuff the recip is the worst as far as staying out of the shop.
