The other day I received a pleasant surprise in the mail. Brad McFarland…the yellow shirt DeWalt guy in the Top 17 contest…took the time to make me a beautiful wooden mallet. He turned the head….and it has nice inlays in it. He also engraved my name on it.
This came in a DeWalt box as well……thanks so much Brad!
Brad, his daughter Mikayla, my son Jeff and his wife Jen…along with myself…will all be at the Daytona 500 next weekend. I will post pictures of this adventure.

I like the square one better."Put your creed in your deed." Emerson

I use them both equally, just depends on what i need it for.
the square head has more meat to it, but doesn't work as well in tight spaces, or in corners. where the bottle head does work it just has less umph to it.
I made Stans much larger than mine, and in that bottle head shape so he could use it to drive the swedges in the stringer under the treads on his stairs.
just depends on the use.
Brad
That's really nice Stan.
I really like Brad, he seems like a real stand-up guy.
Hope he's still hanging around these parts...
I am, just got lost after the contest thread.

Enjoy the races Stan!!! Tell Matt I'll be pulling for him, and to try to stay out of the "big-one".
The best reward for a job well done is the opportunity to do another.
Stan-Brad obviously has good taste when it comes to making friends. As do you. It is clear from your's and Brad's postings that you both are fine men! Your friends and family are all very fortunate.
Thanks ken,
I really look forward to meeting Stan and his son. He really is how he presents himself online, a great guy!
To pony up tickets to the Race is still just something else.
We'll have something to share with you all when we get back, I'll make sure of it!
Brad
That's cool!
Thanks everyone for the kind replies. I will direct Brad to this conversation.
Many here know that a mallet is indeed a serious woodworking tool...especially driving a chisel. It spreads out the impact time over many more milliseconds and pushes the chisel instead of slamming it.
It is so pristine I dont want to mark it up by using it. I however am contemplating making some kind of carved plaque with it. This mallet will remain a virgin until I decide what its first experience will be .......then I am going to grab it and thump away with her!

TWO CLASS ACTS!!For those who have fought for it Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.
Use it Stan! It's not meant to hang on a wall!
I use mine all the time, they can handle just about anything.
Although mine are not nearly as nice. (see Pic)
Hey, Stan-
I got my new copy of Woodshop News yesterday. I'm looking thru it, and when I come to the last page, there's this article about some stairbuilder named Stan winning the DW contest.
Nice article, with nice pics.
With all this publicity, you should think about raising your prices <G>
Were's the case Stan? you got to show that.
Brad
Brad- I did not know that you made this case as well....thanks! I thought it was just an extra DeWalt box you had laying around. You did a nice job on that also.
Stan
I made 2 hammers out of blanks from baseball blanks.
I don't have pictures to show you but I have used them for things from woodworking to metal forming for a 727 leading edge rib that was damaged on the ramp from a service truck.
The next time I have a camera with me at work I'll take a few pics.
And yeah they are a little worse for wear.
Yea I Made the case, and the Vinyl lettering too. I copied a DeWalt jpg, drew it up in AutoCad and sent the image to my Graphics Company to have them cut out.
You may know that DeWalt Sent us the new Tracksaw. I've used it quite abit, but I'm afraid I'm going to damage the tracks in the truck or trailer. So I made a crush proof case for the Tracks. It Works Great, If I don't say so myself. (See Pics)

Now that is really slick. Only concern I would have is that it takes so much space to open the case. I presume the last pic is you showing that it is crush proof."Put your creed in your deed." Emerson

Not really a problem: you don't need to open it more than half way, the track flexes easily enough to pass the end. And if you have it in the back of the truck or trailer the case can stay put while you slide a track out. Let's face it, the track's size is already somewhat cumbsome as it is. This is just what I came up with to protect it and from what i know, will get damaged if left unprtected.
Yes The case will withstand a 180 lbs of me standing on it. Soon to be 175 lbs, i hope.
Brad
Brad, thanks for the case ideas.

Funny!
That's just to show you it's real weight, and not some feather wieght standing on it.
Had to bulk up just for the shot!
Brad
Brad= Thanks again. I will be using that hammer. I just hate to dent it its so pretty....
Stan
It's a Mallet, not a hammer.
You hammer with a hammer, and .....ummm?
Well i don't know what you call it, but you do something different with a Mallet?
Brad
Stan,
If thats the case, send me those pretty new tools you just got, I'll make a case for them and hang em on my wall. Really, I will! just send on over here! I got just place for em.
Brad
I half expected to suggest that it was a wide angle lens.
Especially like your use of lightwt. material and yet still maintain the strength. Hoping to dig through the shop scraps and find some narrow baltic birch. If it's like everytime I look they'll be a couple inches too narrow or short.
Enjoy your trip!A Great Place for Information, Comraderie, and a Sucker Punch.

This case is 1/4" birch ply poplar frame and an oak handle.
All leftover scrap, if it didn't work as a case it would at least Heat the house for a while or so. LoL
A Guitar Case is next on the To Do list.
Brad
very cool!
