Has anyone used or been involved with or a member of Direct Buy?
I understand that membership costs hundreds if not a few thousand bucks. The claim, of course, is that you can save a ton on windows, flooring, furniture, cabinets, etc.
Sounds too good to be true and my mama told me. . . .

Thanks for the post. I was thinking the same thing. I am in the beginning stages of a bathroom (from scratch - nothing is there but the studs) and I was wondering if it was worth joining.
The ads on TV seem like it is worth it but they never discuss the cost to join. I even checked out their website but the best I could come up with was a "free" visitor pass. I am just worried that it will turn into a "timeshare" type of seminar where they pressure me to join before I can find out whether or not it is worth it.
Does anyone know if once you join you can renew annually for a lower rate. I need to do a kitchen soon but it will be at least a year until I am ready for cabinets and appliances.
Thanks.
If your not in a hurry, scan the internet for deals, especially on appliances.
Just purchased a fridgidare cooktop mid range for $150 less that The place where america shops.

There was a thread on this recently. Didn't sound good for Direct Buy.
Corporate business today measures everything by the size of the silver dollar.
RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't walk away from such a place. We got a so called "invite" to join this "exclusive" club.
BLAH, BLAH.... After a high pressure sales pitch every instinct in your body will tell you "DONT DO IT." This membership as it was explained to us is that you pay $5000 upfront to supposedly get a 70-80% discount off quality items. This is very untrue and that there clause is that any discount will justify the membership fee. They'll go on to say that you need to pay another $200 for the next 10 years to get the lifetime membership.
I've done some homework because I wondered why I never heard off them before. Thats because they change names every 2 years.
Remember, If it sounds to goo to be true, and you have to pay upfront....? Any questions?
There was a thread about this not over a month ago. Not a glowing endorsement to be found. Except maybe some people that were still in denial.
google direct buy. you will pay around $3000. to join. They called us up to make a appt to come see their showroom, as I was talking the saleswoman, she asked how many rooms I needed to buy for . I told her a master bedroom set and 400 sq ft of prefinished flooring. She told me that I probably would not recoup the joining fee with that purchase. I did buy the goods elsewhere ( $8000 ) worth. I thanked the lady for her honesty. These people on the adds must be shills for the place or owners. And that broad with the mega mouth, jes, you could drive a truck down there. Buyer beware.
A few years ago I got a "special" invite to one of these invitation only oportunities.I went there with my girl (now wife) it sounded pretty interesting. When we got there there were refreshments of coffee and pastry and everyone was real nice. Then we were sat down like an audience (there were about 20 people there) and the spiel began.Like N8 said, every fiber of my being said this is BS! After the talk we were paired up with an agent/salesman. They needed 2 to 3 K for us to take advantage of this great deal. And no,there would be absolutely noway to wait till the next day to think it over. Can't do it,deals to good, sign up now.I kept thinking to myself that most of the people in the room were probably being paid to be there. It was a really poor act. I thought I might have to fight my way out of there. Trying to politely excuse myself, sorry we just can't afford to pay this without thinking about it. They don't want to take no for an answer. I was thinking it could very possibly get quite ugly. I guess the guy finally seen I wasn't going to bite so we were able to split.I believe I kept looking back over my shoulder to be sure that no one followed us out too closely. Don't even bother to go out of curiosity , experiences like this could be very bad for the checkbook or your piece of mind! george c.
All the talk of high presure and BS were expected. Of course teh aids talk about how they can "afford to give you such good prices" because of their lack of showrooms and inventories. Well, I don't think I am a pinhead. Do you think paying the salaries of those ONE ON ONE SALESMEN are zero? Of course not.
So naturally all the BS is BS. As someone said it is like the timeshare speils. However, I was wondering if you cut through the crap and were building a house thus needing flooring, windows, cabinets, furniture, etc., if the volume would make it pay in that situation.
Naturally, I would DEMAND to see all the prices UPFRONT and have comparible prices ready. My guess is the criminals woulds say "buy first see later". To which I would say "see you later . . . NOT".
Curious.
If it was a deal, they would not need high pressure to push it.
Remember, after joining you are stuck with their products, at their prices.
Would you pay a large up-front fee so that you could any chevy at a discount?
Or would you like the freedom to maybe consider fords, dodges, etc too?
NO doubt.
We've got a local club/competitor here in Indianapolis called Direct Plus that is reputable. Cost $199 to join and $75 per year after the first. We were furniture shopping when we joined and saved about $1200-1500 on the furniture and about $300 on a king mattress set. Worth every penny and then some. I have heard some of the bad things about Direct Buy that echos what the fellow BT'ers are saying.
