Hope you can help me out. I’m doing some work for my father-in-law. We are replacing a section of floor that rotted due to a leaky fish tank (now thankfully gone). After pulling up the plywood subfloor, we noticed the joist directly underneath the rotten spot is also damaged, as well as about 12 inches of end-plate on either side of the joist. The joists are 2×10.
How should I tackle this job? Thanks in advance.

double up with sistered joists, ie reinforce damaged ares with new timber, securly fastened
BUT elimante the problem first and allow damaged areas to dry
caulking is not a piece of trim
