Everybody I talked to told me Bosch is the best table saw. I finally got sick of my Ryobi problems so yesterday I bought the Bosch. It cant need to be set up more. I cant get the fence parallel to the blade. I followed the instructions in the manual for setting up the fence. The screws were very tight and when I thought I had it straight I tried to tighten the screws and one stripped out. Its still not straight. I must be pretty stupid cause now(as of monday) i’ll have two table saws in the shop.

OK, IMRC's reply not withstanding, it's not too hard to set up.
Setting up the fence is not the be-all and end-all. You need to set up the saw blade as well. Underneath the edge of the front and rear, there are 2 sets od allan screws that loosen the carriage holding the blade in alignment. Use a combination square (easier way) or a cabinetmaker's ruler (hard way) and a fixed block in the mitre slot to bet the blade within 1/32" front and back - follow the instructions in your guide book. THEN set the fence.
Its usually fairly accurate out of the box. What happened?

I have a Bosch table saw and it came pretty close to dead square when I got it. I think you might be on to something when you suggest checking the motor mountings. I suspect his may have been banged around in shipping. The motor is the majority of the weight on these units and if it was dropped or slammed I suspect it could get torqued out of place.
He also better check the table for flat - unless he started to play with it thinking it needed setting up .....
Then IMRC could have been right ....Quality repairs for your home.

All table saws need to have the table set square to the blade before the fence is set. As was mentioned before, the trunions need to be loosened, the table shifted to square and tightened. Loosen all four bolts, then snug one so it moves but isn't sloppy. Once you get it squared, snug the opposite corner bolt. Check it again. Make whatever adjustment is needed. Snug another bolt and check it. Tighten the last one and all others. Check it again. It's a bit tedious, but the results are definitely worth every minute you take to do this. When you do your test cuts, crosscut on both sides of the blade to make sure the stock doesn't hit the blade at the back. You should be able to make clean cuts from both sides. The fence should have about 1/32" of clearance at the back to minimize binding. Tuning up machines is a tedious, boring task (unless you just happen to like doing it) but it makes the rest of the time using them a lot better.
"I cut this piece four times and it's still too short."
As far as I can tell the blade is parallel to the table. The fence is over a 16"th out to the table. I'll look at it some more. This is making me feel pretty stupid but i'm not that dumb. I do know about the blade adjustments but like I said the blade looks good to the table. As far as bounced around, the guy that loaded it damn near bounced it into my truck.
If it was bounced into the truck, I would think about calling a manager(mangler?) to see if you can get a different one. Yes, they pack them pretty well, but throwing it into a truck isn't what they had in mind. If you bought it from a big box retailer, they should do something for you. I bought a compressor from a local chain here in WI in July. There was a dent with scratches across the weld where the top meets the cylinder of the tank and the plastic shroud around the pulleys was broken. This means that it tipped over. I wasn't going to keep a tank with a dent across a weld, period. Who knows what could happen later, possibly causing a safety risk?

If there's something wrong with it, take it back to where you got it, and get another! Don't bother trying to fix something that's brand new out of the box.
If I had anytime in my day I would take it back. I bought the tool from a local tool house(not a big box) and I think it was the manager who put it in my truck. I was just at lowes and their display had a perfect fence. I'm going to call them tomorrow at least about the stripped screw. I know I didnt overtighten it cause it never got to that point.
I agree with the others that said "take it back."
I have the same saw, the fence was out of parallel with the blade but it took all of 5 min. to get it parallel.
Doug
I've tried to set the fence a couple of times. It just doesnt seem to want to line up. Like I said I cant really afford the time but I may have to just take it back. I'm about 90% sure its a fence issue, the blade is nearly perfect to the table.
OK, knowing what you said about the blade/fence/table, I'm like everyone else - take it back. That baby should have been near pefect, but it is a manufactured product, and every once in a while, even Bosch has returns.
Once you get a good one, rub in some table dressing, put a decent blade on it, have the fence square, you will wonder why you ever waited so long.
Have fun.Quality repairs for your home.

The blade and the top.I will leave it to the interested read to figure out which should be square and which should be parallel.
Got a chance to go back to the store today. Manager looked at it and said,"yep, that fence is screwed up". Gave me a brand new saw no problems, no questions asked. This one is fine. Now I see what all the talk is about, great saw. Cant believe I ever wasted a day with my other table saw. Thanks for all the suggestions.
I know it shouldnt be a big deal to get an exchange (no questions asked) but I have had bad experiences with another local tool house(had a broken drill and almost had to fight the guy to return it 2 days after I bought it).
how many other tool problems have you had???

Really not many. Ive just always had a knack for buying the broken one. As long as I can remember if I spend more than $100, I can almost guarantee its going back. Dumb luck I guess. All I can say is this table saw is fine and I dont think I can be blamed for the problems with my Ryobi table saw(okay you can blame me for buying it but thats it). I actually take good care of my tools. I dont baby them but I dont abuse them either.
Hello IMERC, yes I'm a girl who actually does build, not just runs around in a skirt and calls herself a builder/owner...sorry I had to say that...but I spend more time, night and day in the office now than I like, specially when my favorite time for outdoor work is coming..Glad to hear you got that saw thing straight MSA. I had that luck for awhile with men. Where's gunner? What profile? now i gotta search around here, geez.

how come my desk work takes so much less time but feels twice as long
1. Because computers hate us very much.
2. Because almost all desk work bites.
3. It's Popular Science/Mechanic's fault--all of this tech is supposed to make our lives easier. The flying cars, the video phones, the labor-saving appliances--why we should be complaining about our 30 hour weeks <G> . . .
4. Because "work" is really a four-letter word. Just think how confusing it would be if you had to get up, under-rested, under-compensated, under-whatever--being asked "why're you so grumpy?" is answerd with a gruff, "gotta go to stinkin fun again today . . . "Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
well if it is any compensation to ya. I wake up drive to the house of love (my job) and walkin and and say "all this fun and money too" or "well its another day in paradise"

Oh, cool, another wage-slave happy in his work <g>. Just living that vida grande like the bumper sticker: "I Owe, I Owe, It's Off to Work I Go!"
Or, in a previous office, the 20-something was asking the fellow what was the secret to working for 40 years straight: "Life's a b!tch, then you die; the alarm goes off, and you do it all over again tomorrow." (Old fart in question now lives on a boat in St Barts & will take a charter "if I dam well feel like it.")Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
how come my desk work takes so much less time but feels twice as longbecause I keep going on those damn online forums while I should be writing my company safety booklet...and then again, I have to update the software so it will stop hanging up on me, reprogram and charge the palm pilot, check the voicemail, read all my email, move my files off the desktop, organize them, input the day's receipts in Quickbooks, check on my bank account, balance it out.....and lists, I make lists of lists, even on the jobsite. I am a compulsive lister.technology is only mundacity redefined.BTW, does anyone use Timberline software?
how come my desk work takes so much less time but feels twice as long
LoL! 'Cause it's on a desk, and not out "doing something." Same reason that washing the dishes takes "longer" than making & eating the food. In the one you are working "up" to the goal. Afterwards is just afterwards.
Such is life.
Then again, some of the "desk" stuff is fun, like BT, which distracts a person away from what they should really be doing . . . That's ok too, we all know any of us can quit BT, anytime, cold turkey, no really, we can <g>Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
I was getting worried...

Take the saw back! The more you mess with it the more they can try to squirrel out of giving you another one by saying that you messed with it, blah, blah.
You paid for a new saw ready to use, not a new saw ready to fix.

most tool manufacturers have a 30 day no questions ask return policy. Ive returned PC tools before for the same reason. bring it back and get a new one. I dont fool with tools.
if it aient right bring it back. Dont try to repair it ect. If i wanted a tool to repair I would of bought a used one.
