Dishwashing mounting

Randy2 | Posted in General Discussion on July 23, 2008 06:48am

I have a Bosch dishwasher model SHV46C03UC/14 that we installed about 3 years ago when we remodeled our kitchen.  It is installed under a granite countertop with wooden cabinets on both sides.  This model comes with the flimsy metal brackets that snap into slots on top of the dishwasher. You then bend the brackets and screw them to the sides of the adjacent cabinets.

<!—-><!—-> <!—->

My problem is that the Bosch supplied brackets simply do not work. They fit loosely in the snap-in slots on top of the dishwasher.  Also, they are so flimsy that even when screwed to the adjacent cabinets, the unit still moves in the space to the point that the dishwasher door often does not close without clipping the adjacent cabinets, thus damaging large sections of custom edge banding. The unit never fits squarely in the opening making it look like a sloppy cabinet job.

<!—->  <!—->

Bosch is no help; they have one bracket. I am on my second set, hoping that the first set was somehow defective.  Not the case!

<!—->  <!—->

Anybody have a solution for this problem?

    3/8-1/2x6 self tapping SM screw thru the plastic bracket holder and into the bracket...

    use the front mounted leveler adjusters to square up the DW to the hole....

    level feet so it is square in opening.
    sometimes there are caps in the sides of the dishwasher that pop off and you can sink a #6, (or sometimes it comes with torx) screw through into the adjacent cab. another option is putting a shim on the top of the dishwasher and tightening leveling feet to hold dishwasher securely.
    I have siliconed a piece of maple to the underside clamped it overnight and then screwed the brackets in.
    good luck.

      How much pressure can I put on a granite countertop before I ... well you know have to buy a new one?

    I installed a dishwasher last week for a friend.

    I did this as a favor and I was not paid to do it.

    There was a granite counter top.

    I talked to the guy at home teacup and asked him how he would mount it and he said drill a hole in the granite and install a plastic insert and then a screw into it.

    I am not comfortable doing that and so I used an epoxy to glue the top mounting bracket to the granite.

    That is how the old dishwasher was installed that I had removed and it had been there for several years.

    It seemed to work pretty well for me.

    Good luck!

      When we had our quartz countertop installed I made up some sheet metal mounting strips that had holes drilled in one end (to allow gluing) and were shaped to mate with the top mounting bracket of the DW on the other end (with a small screw). Never got to use them since the (other) DW decided we needed a new DW and that one was mounted to the cab sides, but the countertop guys looked at the brackets and thought they would have worked.

        I don't know what kind of glue or epoxy was used with the old dishwasherIt was kind of a light grey colorI cut through it with this tool It only took a few secondshttp://www.mkmorse.com/hackm.htmlwhen you do your installation you need something that sets up quickly and cures quicklyThis is what I used and it seems to have worked okayhttp://www.jbweld.net/products/jbkwik.php

        I wanted to do something to get the dishwasher perfectly centered in the cabinet opening.And I also wanted to do something to stabilize it while the glue was setting upI used wood shims on both sides of the dishwasher to center it and stabiilze it and it worked goodhttp://www.hardwareandtools.com/invt/6935423?ref=gbaseJust place the wood shims on the side but don't use excessive force or you will damage the sides of the dishwasher door.Hey it worked for me!
