I wish to put a martin house up in my back yard. So that I’d be able to tip the pole down and clean the house, I had my local sheet metal shop bend some c-channels. Well, I had the Mrs. pick up the channels and pay for them, only to realize that they were bent out of aluminum! The gauge is very heavy, so I’m not really concerned about their strength. The problem is that I was originally planning on setting these channels in concrete, but will the aluminum react with the concrete?

Yes, sorry, but concrete corrodes aluminum.

*You can paint it first with two coats of epoxy, rather than throw it away.
*Tim,Take a piece of cardboard and wrap around the bottom edges. Then take a heavy gauge garbage bag and tie around the bottom of the pole (pretend the pole is garbage, and you are putting it into the bag). The cardboard keeps the metal from punching holes in the garbage bag while you set it in the concrete. Now set the pole in concrete just like you would have. Spread the excess garbage bag hanging out the hole outward, and spread a little dirt on it to hold it flat to the ground, or just cut it off and out of the way.Just a thought...James DuHamel
*Yea, that's what I was afraid of. :(Thanks for the tips though!
