One more time…
Before and after bathroom and kitchen
Allie’s reading hideaway (in previous life was a grody old tile shower, was gonna be a closet, but I decided we needed less junk and more living space…I installed it’s own light fixture and outlet so she can plug in her CD player)
$200 worth of groceries
Thanks for not laughing…at least in print!

Looks nice. Good job.
First pic shows that you went to the same school as my DW. Removing wall paper with a sledge right????
Or just moving the shelves over an RCH. LOL!
Nice work after all.
That's the way to do it...tear it all out and start from scratch!
That corner sink used to drive me nuts, a waste of 4.5 square ft of floor space. The tile counters to each side had mold growing under the tile, from needing to be regrouted...loved smashing them up with the sledge...
Only way to get to the backyard was to go around through the den, so now there's a door...next project is to build a washroom out that door, level with the existing floor. It's always something. I need to find someone to build a foundation first.
Take care...Jen
Just remember my moto.
"Don't get mad... Get a bigger hammer!"
Although the next size up is a wrecking ball. LOLI'm all here....... 'cause I'm not all there!
I thoght the tin foil hate was supposed to be shaped like a pyramid!

When Brad goes out of town, he swipes the coffee service packets and the shower caps to bring home (Woo Hoo!) Not so much that I don't want to mess up my hair, but want to keep plaster dust isolated to the work area. I'm really picky bout dust, put up dust curtains, etc. I liked the idea of using a blower with a piece of flex conduit out the window to get it outside (in FH a couple of months ago, "Removing a Bearing Wall")
Fitteen is a scary age...old enough that you can't keep em away from the opposite sex...my older daughter was climbing out the window at night at that age. Alex isn't going anywhere without a chaperone until she's 18!
I'll get you that form...

Make'em wear the tin foil hats and speak martian and you won't have to worry about too many suitors.
;).
Excellence is its own reward!
Hey swipein the shower caps, what a novel idea. I might resort to that myself except I'm light on the hair so blowin off the ol noggin with the air compressor solves that problem.
Great job, impressive to say the least.
Thanks...it's coming along. I'm trying to make it look much better, but not spend much money. The counter tops (ends aren't on yet) are the cheap ones from Lowes...much better than the old tile ones...need to put a big sign on the wall to my kids..."Use a cutting board!!!"
I have trouble getting my husband to wear sunscreen on his...I wouldn't have him any other way!

That looks great! I had over looked this section 'til now. I bet your husband enjoys your work!
My wife is handy like that. She designed our new kitchen putting together a used set of cabinets. It was a while until we got to it so she was on her third and best design. She added a neat invention. When you open the right sink door the trash lid automatically opens.
Well done-- Well done..
Thanks, it was a big improvement...that's the "finished" side, still have to build the cabinets for the other side, put in electrical and fix the plaster. Can't decide between under cabinet or over cabinet lighting, maybe both...I'll post another picture in 6 mos or so!
Husband says "It looks like it's always been that way" I take it as a compliment.
Deciding what cabinets will efficiently fit where is 50% of kitchen remodeling...if your wife does kitchens as hobby, she may make a career out of it someday. Sounds as though she has a knack..

Jen, I really admire a woman who can work with her hands!! I have trouble figuring out which wrench to use.......
Nice job......
Thank you! Learned much of what I know about carpentry by sewing, believe it or not; how to measure, cut accurately and how things fit together. More women are taking an interest in construction...saw a book the other day, "How to Fix Stuff for Women" or something...
If you're not very strong to begin with, you build up some muscle.
In old pictures of farmers wives, you can tell that they did alot of work themselves before washing machines, grocery stores, and were out there chopping wood and everything else before going in to bake bread and cook dinner for all the farmhands.
Besides, I've never seen a guy pick up a 15 ft 12" x 12" timber and walk around with it...they get help for heavy stuff, there's no shame in it.
90% percent of construction is using your common sense and having a work ethic.

My sister recently bought a house and is taking woodworking classes at the local junior college so she'll be able to learn useful skills, and their fully equipped shop, to complete projects.
She's been a highly-skilled seamstress for years and, after a few woodworking classes said, in an exasperated tone, "I can make a plaid suit from scratch, but this wood working teacher wants everything to be within 1/32 of an inch - I'd rather sew!"
There is an organization here in Cleveland called "Hard Hat Women".....They are women from all walks of life, mainly welfare women, who are learning the trades......They come into schools and give demonstrations......Great for math classes.....
Congrats on a good job.
Your first pix reminded me of the house DW and I built (and still live in, 33 years ago!). I'm 6 ft now (was 6-1 then) and she's shy of 5-3. Anyway, I put the counter height of one of the downstairs baths right inside the back entry that I thought I'd use most often (now called the 'mud room') at 38" high for my (selfish<G>) benefit. Luckily the laminate had yet to be applied when you know who (who still does a lot of gardening outside that same door) won that height argument - literally did take the 38" high counter out with a sledge and replaced with compromise 33". I got a little more height when I insisted if I was ever to do dishes the kitchen sink had to be at least 35" - I won that one!
Edit PS: As per your shower cap, the 'mud room" soap usually consists of a panty hose foot containing 10 or so bars of little hotel room soaps 'liberated' in frequent travels.

Take two! HAHA.
Nice work Jen . Im glad you have become a regular poster.
To all,
I said when our old ones left that we would have people replacing them and they would be the ones to lose out. Im honored to have known the old ones and getting to know the new ones. The point here is that it has been a pleasure for my term here and thanks to everyone for making it a pleasure . This might be a belated Happy New Year!

It's fun to see the animations in your posts, I've yet to figure out how to make colored letters and change fonts.
rez told me once, but it may not have worked because we still have Windows '95 on this computer (or because of operator error)

Thank you Luka, your opinion means a lot.

Other side of our kitchen...will take another 6 mos to get around to making glass doors, might as well post some pics!
Jen
You're doing it all by yourself? I give you credit, girl.......Can't wait to see the results......
Yes ma'm! Did the demo, framing, electrical, drywall, built the cabs, installed the door and windows, and painted all by my lonesome. Hired out the plumbing and mud and tape.
Your encouragement is much appreciated!
Katy is my 2cd kid, married, and thinking of having one of their own soon. It's a lot easier when you're in your early 20's, and don't have a career to put on hold yet!
