Plasterers charge by the sq ft. In your experience, are door openings
included or excluded from the sq ft calcs? At 40 sq ft per door, both
sides, they make up 10% of our job. That could add up to a lot of $$$ for
them or me for an area where they put no plaster. Just curious about
practices around the country.

The most common way to make your own parging mix is to use either Type S mortar for block or Type N for brick and add a concrete bonding additive.

plasterers and drywall both use the board count as the quantity basis...
i.e. (((30))) 4x12 boards = 1440 sf..
so the doors don't make any difference..
if teh waste is excessive .. then there may be a problem..but you should be dealing with someone you don't have to question their integrity...
*If drywall is installed CORRECTLY, then all door and window openings are counted because they are cutouts. The same amount of drywall is needed regardless of the door opening square footage. In my area, I see a lot of drywall installers stop at the edge of a door or window, and install a small piece above the door and window (at the header area). This is a no no, and WILL result in a crack later on.There are no homes with plaster here, so I can't tell ya about that aspect.Just a thought...James DuHamel
*I agree with James and the other consideration is whether two or more subs use the same calculations, apples to apples, there may be some reagonal variations.Skip
*One guy subtracts the area of windows and doors while the other guy figures the area of everything and charges 10% less per sq ft. Same price.Or, if you're lucky, you go the guy that charges 10% more than everybody else and does better work.
