looking for some ideas on “hingeing” docks together
I have built many a dock either fixed on top of pilings ( or through bolted on sides ) or combo of one part fixed and another smaller part floating w/ hoops around piles
the one I’ll be checking out Friday is three sections ( two ends maybe 18 X 12′ on either side of one middle 10 X 10′ ) joined / hinged together w/ plates through bolted a 2X8 rim joist and 2X6 ledger and on the plate is a ring app 2″ in diameter. There are three of these rings on each side ( dock section ) and I ( I repaired it about 12 yrs ago ) have used a 1″ galvanized pipe as the pin running through these six rings
If we were talking about manpowered craft this would be more than fine but the lake is getting more crowded every year w/ bigger and better boats and these floating sections are taking a beating
Anyone w/ some ideas on connecting them ( they are now maybe 6″ apart – 12″ should be fine ) w/ something that might be more flexible / foregiving but keep them tied together
ideas most appreciated John

I have helped a gangplank to a houseboat connection with hunks of fire hose, SS lags and SS washers. Still working AFAIK.
