Does anyone here have experience with Mantis Gas Fireplace units?
I am looking at these units as a possibility to use in conjuction with a TV lift unit (behind the fireplace). They are supposed to be 93% efficient, recover room moisture, and use pvc pipe as vent/exhaust.
Here is a link > http://www.empirecomfort.com/
They have only been out for a couple of years, and I haven’t been able to chat with any users. At the price they are asking, I want some assurance.

What does "recover room moisture" mean?
Mantis Gas Fireplace
I am looking for advice on this, as well. Since you posted over a year ago, I wondered if you did install it, and how you like it. Anybody else have experience with this gas fireplace?
Mantis Gas Fireplace insert
I also own and have installed a Mantis Bay Window fireplace insert. It may do all that the broshure says, BUT at a cost to the pace and quiet of your room. The blower noise is very loud. You could not have a quiet conservation sitting by your fire. Before I try and return the unit ; I want to compare the decible levels to other makes. I have not been able to get that information from Empire so far. Still working on the issue.
Yes, I did install it and actually just fired it up at the end of the year. What I can tell you is that it is a furnace. It's put's out a lot of heat with very little gas and flame. That said, it's noiser than I like. There is an exhaust fan that starts up immediately, then as the heat builds up in the chamber a circulating fan kicks in. I think there are something like 4 fan speeds depending on the chamber temp. I have it right under the TV, so I wouldn't run it when watching TV because of the noise factor.
It's a bit complicated to figure out all the internal workings, but you may be less technically challenged than I. Here's a bad photo of the installation.
Does anyone here have experience with Mantis Gas Firepalce units
Yes, we do. Very efficient unit but the blower is quite noisy. We installed it on the wall perpendicular to the TV wall. We bought the unit last year. Spoke to the gas company from whom we bought, to see if the manufacturer has a less noisy blower.
Likewise, I did buy/install last March. Noisy as hell! I'm looking at some sound deadening material (Dynamat), used in automobiles as a possible solution, although with all that sheet metal, I doubt it will make a huge difference.
The unit does heat quite well and seems to be efficient, but the noise is not what I bargained for. Did your gas co. give you an alternative?
Any luck with sound deadening?
Hi, I'm installing the Mantis G class picture frame right now and we're builing the box it will live in. With all of the reports of the noise from the fans we are looking at adding sound deadening material. Did you have any luck with Dynamat? Anyone else?
Yes, I have applied some sound abatement foam around the fan area, but because it is so crowded in there I couldn't find a way to apply enough to make much of a difference.
If I ever remove the unit, I will apply material to the outside sheet metal box, and the internal ducts.
I wind up not using the FP while we're in the same room when i running because it's so loud. It's really a shame because it really is efficient.
Thanks, some other questions
Did you build your box to the maximum size? We are so we can do some egg crate foam on the inside of the plywood box. It seems like using the Dynamex on the outside of the sheet metal would insulate it creating more heat and void the warrenty potentially. What kind of foam did you use around the fans? Also, did you talk to any Mantis techs when considering different solutions? It seems so crazy and a shame that you can't have the fireplace on while in the same room because of the noise!
For future users of fan aided FP.
Since it's remote or thermostat controlled-why not put the fan somewhere else to pull the air and push to the outlets-I don't think it has to be right there on the FP. Insulate the ductwork with non flamable material and mount the fan a distance away. Too many turns and there'll be noise added, but at least not the fan motor's hum.

Mantis Fireplace
Has anyone recently installed a mantis fireplace. Our builder wants to install one in our new home, one that is Louverless and vents through the floor joists.
Are there blower fans still ultra noisy?
Tks.
Installed Mantis 2015 review
i did a basement remodel in the summer of 2015. My clients wanted a fireplace and the Mantiis seemed like the best solution. Recommended by my heating contractor, the unit installs well, and looks very nice.
My clients just called me (January 2016). They want me to remove it. Knowing that I have to remove the stone wall ithat surrounds it, gives an indication to their dissatisfaction .
Like a previous poster said, it's like a furnace and the noise is unbearable. It' heats the room to tenp while various stages of blowers operate and then shuts off,and the blowers continue.
They have a TV nearby and can't watch iit because of the noise.
if any viable solutions arise, I will post here
