Hey, I grew up in a house where the only insulation was under the attic floor. The attic was my bedroom. I lived, but I'm still a bit chilly! (Always slept outside on the porch in the summer every chance I got -- too bloody hot in my bedroom.) ;-)
Insulating the ceiling and walls would probably be a good move if you want usable space. But that raises all sorts of issues with the roof and moisture (and rot) under the roof deck. If you do this, make sure you get someone who knows what they're doing or you're asking for big troubles. Oh, and you may need to extend your heating/cooling system as well.

Man - you are a tough guy... I bet you had to walk 8 miles to school with no shoes too. I hear those roads in Pittsburgh are paved with steel. Those steel roads get hot during the summer too.

Nah. I had shoes. But it was uphill both ways! ;-)
