Does your newer Dewalt miter box vibrate

| Posted in General Discussion on November 14, 2000 06:07am

I’ve had my 15 amp Dewalt 12″ miter box since March and had no problems with it, till recently it developed a vibration when you grab the switch, this causes the saw to move around on my stand. I clamped it down, but the trim will still vibe. I have checked the blade, bearings, and brush’s, all look good. I love this saw, it replaced the older 12 amp model.

*Only happens when you grab the switch? Could be Parkinson's? DT's, maybe?Check your saw blade again - maybe it threw a tooth.Did you have a jam during a cut and warp the blade? How did you check the bearings? You can't see or feel wear or minute looseness. How about the arbor? Did you check runout? Back to the jammed cut - it could throw the arbor out. It needs to go to the shop. It'll be a good saw for cutting studs when you get a blue saw.

*Hey Ralph , how did you know that's what my yellow one does now??

          1. wood_doctor | Nov 12, 2000 08:38pm | #5

*Check to make sure all your bolts are tight, especially the nut that keeps the blade on. Check your blade for straightness. Pull the trigger and watch the blade as it speeds and slows, you will see if its bent.I dont understand why all of u favor the blue ones sooo much. My yellows outperform the blues anyday. Had a 10" blue one for about 6 months now, the lockout button is broken, the compound miter handle on the back has lost its grip on the turning screw, the flip over fence does not even line up with the rest of the fence, and the whole round part that you turn to get your miter cut moves up and down depending on which side of the blade your work is on. Tired of everyone knockin Dewalt. We have a 12" Miter saw and the 12" Compound Miter, along with numerous Dewalt power tools. Our Dewalt power tools are much better and more durable than the Makitas anyday.

*doctor...calm yourself...may I prescribe well chilled Sam's to take the edge off...Dewalt is fine...But in my unfortunate case, everyone of those yellow tools has let me down...I cut three rips on my Dad's yellow table saw...the third rip was on a ten degree slant...Do the same with my two blue table saws and the fifth rip is 90 degrees...So my experience has been the opposite of yours...near the blue stream peeing a yellow stream,ajOh...and the newest blue chops... are so accurate...I gotta warn the guys not to start a nuclear reaction from carelessly dividing a hydogen atom in half.

*I picked up a Rigid unit a while ago. I was in a pinch for a replacement and basically shopped a couple stores for price rather than do my homework on the web. The feel and accuracy of the controls sold me. I got really lucky in that the damn thing works like a charm and has held up to a beating.I did get a vibration problem too, but from an unlikely source. The stock blade has nice little dimples in it. I think they dissipate heat. Anyway, I had been cutting some pretty green strapping. The next time I went to cut some trim, I noticed slop in the blade. Because I had bought the saw on a bargain, I was quick to blame the saw. I spent about an hour trying to diagnose the arbour, bearings, blade etc. Everything was true. The blades dimples had clogged with sap from the strapping. It looked insignificant, but it was enough to effect the balance of the blade! The yellow cordless drills are great though. East to find and they don't get too hot in the sun!

*John, I have the same saw, DW705 12" compound mitre. No problems, very smooth and great with the 60 series blade. Not used for production work however. Try a replacement blade or examine yours as noted for missing teeth / metal.Jeff Clarke

*Thanks Jeff, thats what I needed to hear. I've checked everything, changed the blade, Its still the same. Guess I'll call the 1-800 # tommorrow. I'd rather paint it Blue before I'd buy a makita.

          10. Frank_"Mad_Dog"_Maglin | Nov 14, 2000 02:22am | #14

*I'm with ya on this one AJ. I had my DW705 (15amp) for 4 months before it let me down with a bad switch which wore out before the first blade. It also seemed like every blade I would use would not run true, this could be verified by looking at the end of the wood being cut, I believe they call it heeling. Tried to adjust it but didn't have any luck. Not one cut was glass smoothe like the cut from my Makita. I do own a DeWalt plate joiner that I have had no problems with so far. I think the older DW705 saws with the 13 amp motors had a better manufactured motor.

          11. Rich_Beckman | Nov 14, 2000 05:53am | #15

*AJ,I appreciate your generosity, but my memory is that the extra (o) started getting used over a year ago. It arose out of somebody's poor spelling. Now, you may have been the first to use it, but for awhile there everyone was using it all over the place (including me) and I don't recall any copyright claims from you. Therefore, I don't believe a license is required. But thank-you for the thought,Rich Beckman
