I bought a pair of Rockwell drills because of the lifetime warranty on the batteries. When I went to make a claim as one of the four batteries no longer carries a charge Rockwell no longer honors their “promise”, it was a sales gimmick.

Your Warranty clearly states that Rockwell can withdraw the Lifetime Battery Warranty at any time. You knew this when you bought it. It is unfortunate that they exercised this option, but they did tell you, from the beginning, that they might.
But, I agree. A Lifetime Warranty isn't a lifetime warranty if it can be withdrawn at any time.

It also states that it is a "replacement agreement", and not a warranty. I don't know what the difference is, sounds like a lawyer-crafted loophole so that unlike a lifetime warranty it can be withdrawn. I do not recall if this was on the outside of the package but the tool was openly advertised as a lifetime battery replacement which most would interpret to mean a lifetime warranty.
It specifically states that the warranty does not apply to batteries.

WHAT IS NOT COVERED
This warranty applies only to the original purchaser and is not transferable. This warranty does not apply to accessories or batteries.
I get that, sort of my point. Battery replacement agreement is not a warranty in small print on backside, but a warranty is implied by "FREE FOR LIFE" in giant font on the front label.

FWIW, Makita has honored their warranty for me many times on cordless tools. The only time they asked a question was when the rep called me and asked if I had suggestions for improvements, which he promised would go to designers.
