Ok, here goes
I have 5 cabinet doors to build, of three different sizes. All 38″ tall. Two at 23″ wide, two at 17″ wide and one at 12″ wide. I just bought a Kreg jig and I have it set up to go. Simple 1/4″ panel inserts. No edge routing required – arts and craft style. No hanging, no finishing, no hardware required.
Here’s my challenge. I have 2 hours to work tomorrow. Can I build these doors in two hours.
Just for the record, I don’t have to have these done for any reason, but I’m just curious if I can do it.
Right now I have the wood in the shop but not cut to size. All tools are set up. All misc. parts are readily available.
Can I do it?
(ps – happy mama’s day to all that it applies to)

Sure ya can.
But tell me you are plugging after screwing. If not, I'd bring out the Hack and cough comments.

What are ya gonna insert the panels in? Heh, heh....
Let's analyse this job:
That's a grand total of 330 operations to accomplish inside 120 minutes.
I wouldn't wanna try that unless I was in a fully-set-up factory environment with a panel saw; computer-controlled auto-feed router table; automated twin-head drilling jigs; auto-feed/auto-stop chop saw; vaccuum assembly table; 24" belt sander; yadda-yadda....

Hehehe. Even a stoned optimist would know this job could only be done by several robots in two hours. Me, I'd still be finishing my second cup o' java and figuring out the cut list after an hour so I'd be toast in this race.
To the OP: I have the newer Kreg Jig with plenty of clamps, etc. I'd still figure a minimum of a half day, even with the cut list in hand, materials ready and the shop clear of other projects.
Of course a one man specialty operation could probably do it in two hours but that's not what we're talking about...or is it?

Didja notice the OP hasn't been back to read his messages since May 11? I figure he's still workin' at it and will be along when he's done....

His optimism got side tracked by reality. Happens to me all the time.
I'm still here. Don't talk about me behind my back.
Yes, I've been sidetracked. I still think it could be done, but it will probably take me another 2 hours to finish. I've got the rails and stiles cut and routed in 2 hrs. Now just Kreg it up and see how they look.
Dinosaur nailed it,look at the steps it takes to build these 5 doors.
i would guess 6-10 hrs for 5.
i just built 27 of these just like these ,didn't keep exact track but close to 1 hour a door was pretty close.
how come your paocket screwing these together? your rail and stiles should go together with a tounge and groove then glued and pin nailed?

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T
MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE
DUCT TAPE.

Absolutely!
5 pcs. 8' stock(2 rails & 2 stilles each)
Joint one face each= 5 min.
joint one edge= 5 min
rip to width= 5 min
plane opposite face= 5 min
joint sawn edge= 5 min
crosscut panel to height=5 min
rip panels to width=5 min
plough dado in edges=5 min
cut rail and stiles to length=5 min
cut tenons on shaper or router table=5 min
glue up doors=20 min
machine setup allowance=30 min
clean shop=20 min
total time invested= 120 min
If this seems hurried, sit and look at a clock for 5 minutes.
Your estimate may have a foot in reality as long as all tools and stuff are set up properly/conveniently before the clock starts running.
I think the only foot he's got in reality there is the one attached to the leg he was pulling....

I admit I have a fairly well organized shop, and the 20 min. clean up time insures that the shop is ready for the next job. I was even being generous with the set up and clean up times. We would build these simple doors anytime for our shop rate X 2 hrs. + material and make a good profit and turn out a good product. If we were talking about cope & stick with raised panels, then you could double that time. Most of the kitchens we build have 30+ doors, with the time allowance thats been stated by others, I would have 1 man week in just door construction! I don't believe I would sell many packages based on that cost.Once we have set up for a operation, it takes very little more time to make multiples. It's really just a matter of planning.
I wouldn't attempt it in 2 hours. That's a 6 hour job.

Ted, how much time would you allow for building a 36" sink base cabinet ? That's to include carcass, face frame, two doors, dead-front and hardware. Please describe your method (dado, pocket screws, mortise & tenon, etc. How about a 2' base with drawer?
Off the top of my head? A day and a half. I'm set up for mortise/tennon so that's the process I would use. Raised panel doors, face mounted with european hinges.
This is setting up for one cabinet. Several cabinets would average a day, give or take a little.~ Ted W ~
