Door frame material for exterior door
It appears the exterior door frame on the side door to my house is starting to swell. The door is constantly sticking and not closing properly. The current frame is currently wood. Not sure if it’s solid wood or some type of composite.
I want to replace the door frame. Looking for advice. What type of material is recommended for exterior door frame? Aluminum, fiber glass, composite wood?
There currently is no storm door on the frame. Im not sure if this is what contributed to the problem, or if wood is just not an ideal material for an exterior door frame.

Hi. I had also wood doors and i needed to replace them. I wasn't able to close them properly, etc... I replace them with PVC doors and they are awesome. If you have higher budget aluminum are even better.
Do they just sell the frame without the door, or do I have to buy both the frame and door as one kit?
I see menards sells a fiberglass frame and door kit for $293. I wouldn’t mind getting just the frame itself. I would just need to confirm location of the hinges on my current door line up with the routed hinge recess on the frame correct?

Wooden doors are good but they require proper maintenance and polish, so these days fiberglass doors are in use they are good, durable, and easy to maintain. They are also cost effective
I'd get a fiberglass door with a PVC frame and SS hinges and replace the whole thing. But, make sure you get a solid fiberglass door, not a laminated one.
Any links you could share? Thanks

You can choose options down to the door type, and size you need.
I would use wood jambs and would completely paint all sides and cuts.
I appreciate all the advice. One other question. I’ve never installed a door before. My understanding is the key part of the install is prepping the area, making sure the area is level, and shimming any inconsistency. Does any one have any type of visual aid or video that details this step? Thanks
