Just purchased new door handles and locks for doors. question is do you install the hook type handle with hook up or down or doesnt it matter.

I think you are talking about levers. The part that your hand touches to operate the door should be curving down.

Yes that is what Iwas meaning thelever type handle thanks other opinions are appreciated but I thought that was the right way with the hook down.
Generally with twist lever handles the lever points towards the hinge side. For push/pull lever handles the lever points up for push, down for pull. For old-fashioned thumb-button handles, of course, the thumb button goes on the top side.
