My ’30’s home has a thick, castle like front door, and it has the brass spring like weather stripping from years ago. I can see daylight on the latch side of the door when it’s closed. I’ve had bad experiences in the past with D cross section EDPM weather stripping on doors, and that’s supposed to be the best. Has anyone been able to either rehab the old brass weather stripping or come up with a better idea? Thanks in advance.

Not all EPDM strips are made equal.
Are you referring to the one on the threshold or around the permimeter?
If it's the thresold, I've had good luck with a sort of crescent shaped piece that butts up against the outside of the closed door. No drafts at all in Winter.

Thanks. Taliking about around the door, especially on the latch side.

That makes it a little tougher, especially when retro-fitting an old door.
It may help to talk to a door manufacturer to see if they'll sell you some of their stuff. Here's some pics of what our factory made doors use. I don't think it's EPDM; or at least not solid EPDM. It feels like a jacket of some sort of plastic with a foam filling. It works well.
(Sorry about the drywall dust, dirt, etc...we're still building).
Scott.

Thanks. I've noticed that newer doors have pretty good integrated gasket systems, but the big boxes don't sell anything aftermarket like that.
Looks like Dan's onto it....Scott.
Scott, that looks like Q-lon weatherstripping to me. Around here you can buy it at Home Depot but it isn't an easy retrofit as you need to reset and kerf the door stops (which isn't really an option on exterior doors if the door stop is milled into the jamb)Karl
