razzman | Posted in General Discussion on November 22, 2005 03:38am

Got these 40 doors at auction last summer on a $30 steal and two days labor. Roar! Finally getting around to them.

Heavy suckers. I mean heavy. One man operation carrying them around is full attention.

Luka siad he thought there were probably particle laminate or some such with an oak venner. I’ve been removing the hardware for flat storage via the idea from another BTer a while back.

But dang, now that the hinges and locksets have been removed it looks like oak to me with an oak veneer.

Here’s some pics.

Looking for economical storage here as not a living quarters.

So now it's the beginning of the planning stage for a selfsupporting structure using these doors as panels in some way and capping it with a standard roof.

Doors are 36" wide and just short of 80" high with a thickness of 1 and 3/4 inches.

I was considering placing them on a perimeter PT beam 4x6 or such as a baseplate with the like of 2x2 nailers inside and outside of the doors on the plate to secure them in and something similar as a top plate.

No footerfoundation as it's all sand with no drainage problems.

Placement of the doors, I'm wondering about routing out 2x6s and sliding them in as freestanding panel or a 2x6 with 2x2 nailers. Probably could lap them around 1 1/2 inches and lag them to each other.

I'm fishing for ideas from you'all. Thanks

I'd go with the 2x6 with 2x2 nailers.

add top and bottom plates, and you've got a wall. The plates will tie the whole thing together. I'd try to put it up in sections, a 2x6, then a door, then a 2x6, etc. Building the wall then trying to stand it up would, IMO, be too much weight for 1 guy.

What ya gonna put in that shed?  It sounds like it could be used as a bomb shelter, with those doors.

I was thinking of using them as studs with 36" of foam insulation.

Should help keep the voices out.

Little bitty PU at the end of the FB in the sound hole, single coil type for 4 doors and hinges and doorknobs/latches mechanisms for placement in your own house as interior doors?

Ok, but maybe 6 is mo betta, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, laundry, and an incidental hallway..I can swing them and rehinge as needed, BUT if they have lock borings as I see, we need to ascertain the handing....I need 3 rights and 2 lefts as you face the hinge swing away from you.

Did ya want the whole Vox set up? I mean new strings and saddle?  She needs a tender loving home, and a case. I have her in nude ( no tension on her) for storage purposes..oh, it is a bolt on neck too..4 honking screws and a nickle plate on the heel..diamond shaped MOP inlay markers.

This ain't getting me cutting firewood, but it is ok.  Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

I don't know about the Vox. She looks like a weak kitten.

How soon you need these doors. I got a call about a gig in NH and I'll be leaving for there before very long.

Those doors aren't going anywhere so maybe we can touch base on them later since all yer doing is replacing.
