I’m thinking on working on creating a new database module that creates, keeps track of, and co-ordinates the door, window, hardware, and finish schedules. One of the project we’re working on right now the “Door and Frame” schedule wouldn’t even fit on a legal size piece of paper even if it was printed sideways in landscape view. The thing is the architects just used the same schedule format that they would use for a huge custom commercial job so 80% of the space in the schedule list is empty and unused.
So I’m wondering what kinds of things do smaller contractors look to keep track of in lists like that. In fact do you folks typically compile lists/schedules like that for your projects?
My thinking is these lists could also be tied into Customer Selection Lists and lists of Allowance Items and either assist or be generated during the Takeoff Review of the plans.
Just looking for general thoughts and ideas on this as I tool around in my head with this. Any ideas out there?

Jer, as a rough framer...I would love a comprehensive window and door take off. Usually our plans are drawn generically and then the window supplier gives us a scribble sheet.
It's amazing how much time is saved with proper and adequate information.
