Double Wall Oil Tanks Ontario Canada

Have heard pieces of discussions about the double wall oil tanks….
Some say that all existing oil tanks must be replace with new tanks in 5 years
Some say that only those tanks over a certain age
Some say that furnaces to be replaced as well if over a certain age
Have looked at the Ontario Government site on building codes….nothing mentioned.
Anyone know anything more on this topic or where I can find out more.
Thanks in advance.

First place I'd ask is your oil company.
Most of the government web sites I've looked at vary from lame to useless, but it might be worth another try, looking under environmental protection rather than building codes.
I think this may be the site you need http://www.tssa.org/ , it's the Technical Standards and Safety Authority. Read this page http://www.tssa.org/fuels/home_heating.asp first to see if that answers your question; if not, then search their site and/or send them an email

sounds like it would fall under the ministry of the environment; they're the folks i would call.
i know in the maritimes they have been pushing hard for changes to the rules, but since i don't have oil, i don';t know what they are.

After asking your oil supplier, I would check with your insurance agent. Seems to me that they are the ones pushing for new regulations here. Liability and remediation costs can be horrendous, even for a small oil spill, especially if it leaks under your foundation / floor.

What Doc said.
One of my employees just bought an older house. His insurance company would not insure him unless he installed a new tank. They did not require a double wall tank though. All they were concerned with was that the age of the existing tank was unknown.
