How wide of boards?
3" or less, I would biscuit the butt ends
I installed a wide plank DF floor some years ago and on those I had to route in my own t & g, full length and ends.
Now there was a bunch of added work!
Terry
DF Flooring
Flooring is 2 1/2" to match what exists. This material will need to be sq. cut at both ends, each piece. Biscuiting each pc would be super time consuming, not to mention MESSY. I guess I'm looking for a magic bullet.
If it's too much work and too much mess.......
don't do a thing. The T's & G's on both sides of the joint will keep it in line. If it's exterior, you of course will want to end on a joist, in interior, your staples, cleats or nails will hold it fine to the subfloor-stay away a couple inches from the ends and try to get close to your joist locations.
Fir floors ends
Echo Calvin. Make sure the ends are square and make them tight.
My house was built in '31, and that's how the floors are laid - and they're still good. I buy fir shorts all the time and use this method for repairs.
