Do any of y’all do any projects in your shops, to help cover income for business down-times or rainy days? I do a few things each year, sell in a friend’s high-end art/antiques shop. Stuff I can work on for an hour or two here and there, then put aside for a few weeks, until I have time again. Just finished the basic construction on a dollhouse, have done some furniture in the past, etc.
I’m looking for more side projects, but something unusual, and certainly not the church-bazaar crafty kind of crap. Ideas?

A friend of mine has some furniture built from giant tree burls that is about the coolest living room set I've ever seen. Anything built from a tree in its natural form seems to really appeal to me.
I've always admired the hand crafted exotic wood walking sticks and other gentlemanly type wooden accesories. I thought the pens were cool at first but enough with them already!
I actually own a wooden tie that is fabricated like a roll top desk cover. I would never wear it but it was so creative I had to own one.
I also like things like well built wooden toys and hand made wooden ships.
I just like stuff made out of wood... The more it looks natural or hand crafted the more it appeals to me. Not to crazy about the high production, machine made stuff. It just doesn't seem "wooden" enough.

Pile of worthwhile but neglected furniture for refinishing, glueing up, and resale.
Excellence is its own reward!
I don't have shop...
but have had some ideas for when I do....
if the space was available...I'd try big fancy play houses. There's a place around here that designs/sells custom built play houses..think they go for around $5K.
I could get into that.
Also thought.....really cool dog houses.
Lotsa detail stuff for both. Maybe try to use job site scraps of upscale materials that are dumpster bound just because the off cuts are too small.....
I'm actually thinking of a mock-up dog house to show potentials the general idea......I like the idea of making a small scale version of their house.
KIds and dogs.....that's what the filthy rich throw their money away on...
