I just got one and was wondering if I need it or if there has been some issues with them.
Thanks!

Pay it off each month, their interest is high, other than that it is fine.
I always pay off every month. If they mess around with me I'll just drop it.
I figured it would be easier to keep track of my purchases with them.
I go there a lot. They are open early, have most of what I want, and the prices are reasonable.
I drive my daughter to school 5 days a week near a big one so it is convenient.
She thinks she is driving herself to school next year. Ya, right. The car would be sitting at school the whole day. What are her parents supposed to do? Ride a bike?
Kids!
I was just there yesterday cuz they have the sanding belts I was after that Lowes don't carry..came to 11.10$ The guy says " I can discount..no, I can GIVE you these for free, if you apply and are accepted for a HD card".
I passed. And paid the 11.10. Having the card would mean 'd turn around and spend about 300 that I already had contemplated ( expecting a check to come) but talked myself out of spending for the time being.

""What are her parents supposed to do? Ride a bike?"" Nope you get to keep the old car,she gets the new one... You have a lot of Learning about teenage daughter logic I can tell.
They can't get your Goat if you don't tell them where it is hidden.
"teenage daughter logic ". Is that logic? ; ^ )
I've heard that men think about s*x every 17 seconds.
Maybe some teenage boys do.
If that is the case then what are teenage girls thinking about every 17 seconds?
Themselves? Or themselves and their friends?

A couple of points.
Putting CID on the back of a card is great, but with the swipe the card yourself, it's a waste of time. You can get all in a snit if they don't ask you but if someone steals the card no one is gonna ask them for ID. I actually watched a woman at a gas station swipe at the pump then walk in and flip out that no one asked for her ID..... Nutso...
And the 6 month deal is a racket. They have a formula that would confuse Einstein for applying payments, and the due date isn't on your payment date. If it's all not paid off they tack on 6 months of unpaid interest.
"They have a formula that would confuse Einstein for applying payments, and the due date isn't on your payment date. If it's all not paid off they tack on 6 months of unpaid interest."EXACTLY why I stopped using mine, cut it in half, and am slowly paying it off.

My kids went to Newport Harbor High School, they didn't want a used car, their friends all had new.
Told them it's that or walk.

Do they offer a discount for its use?
Pay it off every month and it's no different than any other.
A La Carte Government funding... the real democracy.
I found that they are far faster than most to assess late fees. Also, they have had three different 'banks' handling the account for them. used to be GE for a while, somebody else before that, and I think they were handling it themselves last time I looked, but I haven't used them for so long I don't remember.

My commercial card is controlled by CITI. I have a Personal CITI MC, and they have been placing a lot of restrictions on that, as well as every person I know that has a CITI MC.
For my commercial HD Card, when I call customer service, they treat me like a king. I thought that was weird.
For the most part it's been okay. They always have 6 months same as cash on over $299. Which is good and I'm sure you've seen.
We've had roughly 3 instances where they screwed something up on crediting payment. Credit wrong amount and 2X online payment processing problems for no explainable reason. If we wouldn't watched the account coslely both could have been costly in fees and intrest...
Customer service seems to only remotely care, which pretty much matches the store service and obviously how they handle payments.
"They always have 6 months same as cash on over $299"That must be a consumer account and not a commercial line.I think they have several different kinds of credit accounts.True about watching closely. I found a charge on mine for just a few bucks, but it was in another state where i had not been, for something I did not buy. Took a while to get them to fix it.

You're right. I do just have a consumer account. I actually try to avoid HD as much as possible, so I haven't yet got a commercial account...
I've had a comercial acct. with them for years. Same with Lowes. No problems with either.
Your monthly statement, if it is a comercial acct. will have evry invoice and item on each invoice listed, so it is easy to reconcile with your reciepts.
Both HD and Lowes have been hacked into a few times but they immediately reissued new cards.
I never sign the back of my cards. I just put C.I.D. on them. If the cashier doesn't ask for my identification I go to the comercial desk and place a complaint. Ussualy never happens agian with that particular cashier.
Not sure how their regular charge cards work though.
When Lowes ran their 30yr Owens/Corning shingles on sale, I went to Home Depot for a price match even though they don't stock OC shingles.... they did, plus because their charge card special was on, I got to use the no pymts and no interest for a year to payout the balance.... Not having to pay the full amount allowed me to catch other items on sale/closeout as I easily paid it off before the 1 year date.
Also, I'll get a "Use their credit card" 10% off discount mailer, which can be used even with clearance items in the total. Helps that way, too.
Just pay off the balance each 30 days or BEFORE the end date...AND when you are getting your purchase placed on their special no interest/pymt, ASK to be sure they are putting it on that program...spent time with them having that corrected at both Lowes and H.D..... ;>)
Bill
I get those on the commercial account too. Plus I get those $10 off on your next purchase.
Trouble is I always run past the experation date before I need to use them. :-(
They'll occasionally send a 10% coupon in the mail to card-holders. I saved about $60 on setting up my hoophouse using one. Just don't forget to pay it off.
I got rid of my HD commercial card a few years ago because the magnetic strip would wear out in 2 months. Take 10 days to get a repalcement after the "broken" card was cancelled. Clerks told me they had a lot of trouble swiping HD cards, not just mine.
In '89, when DD#1 turned 16, the plan was that she couldn't have a car until she graduated from HS. That plan worked for about a month until SWMBO got really annoyed because DD#1 would only drive her Bronco. (She wouldn't be caught dead in my GMC - lol)
We bought her a used Honda Prelude and all was well until '92 when DD#2 was getting ready to get her license. I was looking around for a decent used car - and dreading the thought of having two used cars to take care of - when Daihatsu decided to drop out of the US market and was clearing out their inventory.
We bought two brand new Daihatsu Charades for $5,995 each out the door. DD#2 actually had her own car a couple of months before she got her license, and took her test in her car. - lol
Moral of the story is that you might as well just give it up. - lol
Like Wiston Churchill said, never, never, never.
I don't think they will ever have their own car unless they pay for part of it.
I guess we are either cheap or keep them on a tight leash.
The 19 year old never has had a car and never will.
The 15 year old is more determined though. If she wants to help pay for one I'm ok with that. But that probably means paying for gas and some insurance too.
It's her choice.
I've gotta put in a plug for the independent lumber yards. The downside is they aren't open Sundays, only half day Saturday, and close at 5:30, but mine delivers for no extra fee, and a lot of their stuff is cheaper than the 'BIG' stores. Ice and rain barrier $20 cheaper a roll, better quality lumber, etc. Yes, I do go to the big stores, mainly because of their hours, and I need something NOW, and they are open. I get better service and prices at the local independent yard.
I always try to shop localy. But I haven't found a good lumber yard here yet. We have only been here a year. I will keep looking.

We're down to two local lumberyards here, and that is counting Sutherlands as local. I've had poor luck with Sutherlands until I found an outside sales guy there that is always on the ball.
The real local one, Mawson, is somewhat tuff to deal with. I've been shopping there for different companies for 8 years now. When I started my own business, I was looking forward to shopping there all the time, but most of the counter staff is surly, and doesn't like to be bothered with my small volume of business.
I recently got bids from Sutherlands, Hm Dep, and Mawson on a small addition I'm starting, and Sutherlands was the cheapest. Mawson and Sutherlands will deliver for "Free", Hm Dep wanted to charge me for Delivery. I'm sure that if I took Sutherlands prices to the pro desk at HD, they would match it, but I don't operate that way.
Anyway, Popawheelie, Those are our lumber choices here, along with the new Lowes in town. Also, there is Forks Lumber up North on 287, who are the place to go for Beetle Kill Pine, and other cool stuff.
If you are looking for trim and hardwoods, Sears Trostel is the place, on Riverside. (I'm betting that you've found them by now)
If you ever see my Silver Dodge Diesel pulling my White Cargo trailer in the Hm Dep Parking Lot, (Seems like I am at the North Store Every Day), Say Hello.
It says B and B Contracting in the passenger qtr window
Thanks for plugging the local lumberyard. We only have one locally owned lumberyard left in Santa Cruz (Big Creek) and they have always been the farthest from my shop.I am stoked to see that they are moving to a new location just 1/2 mile away from me. As soon as they open I will buy everything there regardless of price. The time saved over the long haul covers any higher costs.

my 7 yr old is still convinced he's gonna drive a low rider.
(he got the idea from the cartoon movie Cars)
which ... is fine by me.
I've already laid out the plan for him.
one of my best friends is a mechanic/auto body guy with his own shop ...
the boy's unofficial "Uncle Brian".
so as the plan goes ... when he's about 13 we'll start looking. He'll already have a coupla years under his belt as my paid helper ... so with his money we'll buy the car Uncle Brian finds. Then ... it'll sit in Uncle Brians shop ... and for the next 2 or so years him and Uncle Brian will build his low rider.
I'm on board, the boy's on board and Uncle Brian is actually hoping the plan goes thru. The kids can have what ever they want ... as long as they work hard for it.
Gonna be the same deal for the daughter ... if she wants a nice shiny ride she'll have wet sanded it first.
we may have the low rider project car before he's 13 ... Brian's already been looking and almost worked a deal for me last summer. Guy wouldn't give the right price ... he called said he had one "we" might pick up ... I didn't even know I was in the market!

No issues here. I just completed an entire house and charged most of the house to the card (even though I bought very little of the materials at HD. Example: Bought the lumber and truss package at 84 Lumber but charged it all to the HD card)
I got it because they have a point system which is converted to HD gift cards. So far they've sent me about $1500 in gift cards. So far I got an 8000 watt generator, a compound miter saw, a cordless finish nailer and a bunch of other stuff all just for using their card. Basically, free stuff.
Like others have said, I pay it off every month so interest isn't an issue.
