I couldn’t find a site for not-so-fine wood butchering & nail bending, so I hope you don’t mind me asking my question here.
About 30 years ago there was a product called Dragon Skin, I believe Red Devil might have made it. It was a perforated metal pad about 4″ square, and the perforations were left rough, which made it great for quickly knocking down rough edges, etc. Unfortunately, after 20 years or so of weekend use, it started losing its edge, and now the metal is tearing apart at the edges, and I can’t find anyone who has heard of it or knows where to get replacement pads. I suspect whoever made it dropped it, because it wasn’t wearing out fast enough for them to make a killing selling replacement pads.
Has anyone else heard of Dragon Skin, or know where there might be some stashed away in dusty old cellars?

Paul- I DO remember those things! Think my dad had one, wish I did now that you mention it. Had a red handle of bent sheet metal, right? Sorry, haven't seen one in a long time........Closest thing I can think of is Microplane sold by Rockler. -Ken
*Sounds like a rasp, though I don't think I've seen any rasps that large.Rich Beckman
*Paul,Canoe builders use something called dragonskin to shape foam. Listed at the bottom of the page at this link.http://www.nwoc.com/retail/index.asp?subcatid=22KK
*It's like if you perforate metal with a pointed tool, all the perforations on the backside are sharp. That's the best I can remember. -Ken
*So why doesn't Paul use his cheese grater?
*Check out your local Drywall Distributor. I agree with Rich, I think you are looking for a Rasp.Bob
*Bob- I don't think so, I'm fairly certain it's a lot finer than the surform.........Gee, it's almost a nostalgia thing for me now, I can picture it in my dad's shop. Need Paul to corroborate my description. The kayak/canoe product sounds closest..........This deserves some looking into, it really is a cool thing. -Ken
*Ken- What about the 3x10 sanding screen hey use for sanding drywall? It comes in various grit.Bob
*Ding-dangit, Bob, guess I was brain dead there, in fact just a few hours ago was sanding a wall with that very stuff! LOL........I still think the Dragon Skin is a different animal (or FROM a different animal!). Cheers -Ken
