No work.
World class big-wave tow-in surfer Laird Hamilton said this about how he feels when the surf is flat: “It’s like being a dragon slayer and finding out there are no more dragons.”
That’s how I’m feeling right now.

What about mom's porch?
yep, I guess this coming week on that one. I got a few small "handyman" jobs to get caught up on here in town, then I'll go down to L.A. Hard to get motivated on this piddly stuff, its a huge mental obstacle for me. Hopefully next week I can hit the ground running, and knock these little things out, so that I'll be freed up when a real job comes through.

Hey Huck,
How far would you go for work? What would be your comfort range for time away from home/ couchsurfing?
don't get too excited, just thinking out loud...

That would have to depend on the job/pay. I'd travel to Australia if the price was right! "...craftsmanship is first & foremost an expression of the human spirit." - P. Korn

The particular job (In a nice part of Oakland) I'm thinking of has a ton of loose ends, if it is even going to happen this year at all. I'll be looking for some help, (again- if it happens.)
Nice lady lawyer client, though. Understands hourly billing, no head games.
You'll be cranking away on something cool long before these ducks get in a row, I expect. I'll keep thinking out loud though.
ok, good night.

Sure thing, always try to keep my options open. I tend to get bored with Jerry Springer and the gang, after about 10 minutes!"...craftsmanship is first & foremost an expression of the human spirit." - P. Korn

don't let those handyman jobs scare you. Can be good money and grow into more.Last summer I was besieged with a few three day jobs that kept turning into three week or more jobs with "while you are here..." or from finding hidden extensive rot or just keeping my eyes open. I had thought I was almost all out of work as I started them but didn't get caught up til winter hit - actually still didn't finish all as some is waiting for spring.

Thanks for that pic Huck. It made my day.
Life is a lot like surfing anyway. You work hard to paddle out, you sit on your butt for a long time just waiting, and then you see that set rolling in from outside, and you paddles your a$$ off to try and make it out before it breaks on your head.
Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't.
But man, when you catch that wave, there ain't nothing else like it. And you sure won't remember anything about how hard it was to sit and wait. Just that sweet pure feeling.
The dragons aren't gone, they're just regrouping out there gathering strength.
I wouldn't put that sword away yet.
