Does it make sense to drain a hot water heater if it will not be used for up to 6 months? The model is question is a 75 gallon power vent that is used in a pool house, and during winter, the basement where it’s located is heated to 50 deg. I’ve talked to some local guys and nobody seems to have a good answer one way or the other. Thanks.

For what it is worth, I drain mine.
I flush the tank well on shut down rather than letting whatever crud dry out and harden in the bottom. Then leave it with the drain open, water and gas shut off.
This leaves the tank relatively clean, dry, and unpressurized for the inactive period.
Who knows, I may be messing up.
