Can anyone tell me if electric drill bit sharpeners really work, and if so, recommend a good brand?

Drill sharpening machines were discussed at some length on either the Home Machinist board at
http://www.chaski.com/wwwboard/machine/index.html
or on the Let's Talk Tools board at
http://www.InsideTheWeb.com/messageboard/mbs.cgi?acct=mb772776&TL=
The discussion appears to have fallen off the board by now, but if you have specific questions, you could post to either of those boards.
As I remember the discussion, the consensus was that the Darex Drill Doctor was reasonably good for home machine shop use. However, for heavy industrial use there were some other machines listed which were felt to be better. I have one of the Drill Doctors which has the maximum capacity of a 3/4 inch drill, but I haven't used it yet. These are available on various discount tool web sites for around $140. Darex also has a similar machine that handles drill bits up to 1/2 and which sells on the same sites for about $110.
