gunnu try here first, rather than knots.
what are the tricks to drilling large holes in bamboo?
trying to drill 3/8″ or bigger holes I split the bamboo, tried slowing down at the end, but still split.
I’m trying to build a deer knocker (chaser)
TIA

I had luck with a sharp fostner bit and a clamped on inverted V notched block with a guide hole to keep the bit from skating...
1/2" holes.... high speed and light pressure...
done on a drill press...

maybe a step bit would work...
a piolet hole and finish hole in one application...

Use one of those hole saws that look like a circular drum with teeth along with a pilot bit (I just had a mind block on what they are called....geez). Anyway, they come in many different diameters and should have one that will work for you. If need a smaller hole then can heat up a pointed metal rod and burn the hole into the bamboo.
