DRYER CIRC. Old 3 wire to 4 wire??
DRYER CIRC. Old 3 wire to 4 wire??
@@@
My old dryer – 3 wire – is dying and we are looking at a new one – with a 4 wire plug.
Condo dates from ’62 and wiring is run in EMT. No little green wires anywhere.
What is the Workaround for 3 wire outlet and 4 wire plug?

In most cases you can retrofit the new dryer with a 3-pin pigtail. Check with the appliance shop to be sure.
If the wiring is in conduit, it may be possible to pull a new 4-wire circuit. I believe you'd be able to use the conduit as ground, so only three wires would be required.
Dryers come without a cordset and then you need to buy and install the appropriate one.
If it is used then you can convert it.
That said if the existing installation was done correctly, 2 hots and a neutral wire in a EMT the EMT is the equipment ground.
You just need to change the receptacle to a 4 wire one. And you might need to install a bonding wire from the receptacle ground to the box.
