I am building several cottages on my property from wood we have cut on site and need some help on drying lap siding. I’m using Poplar (abundant) and would like to know if cutting the thin wood for siding will create more of a problem with warping and cupping then with 4/4 lumber. Any help would be appreciated.

The most common way to make your own parging mix is to use either Type S mortar for block or Type N for brick and add a concrete bonding additive.

Poplar isn't considered very good for exterior use, based on everything I've read. You might want to check further, but I'd hesitate to use it for any but the most protected exterior application.
