Greetings from a newbie,
I am havng a plasterer skim coat several room in which I’ve put up new plasterboard (drywall). My question is this: what are the ideal conditions/ways to allow the skim coat to dry to maximize durability and minimize cracking?
The climate I live in is Ireland.
Thanks,
Bruce
PS. I really appreciate all the info/ideas you guys put out. This forum has been very helpful for me.

Greetings!
Somebody who really knows the details will be alpng presently, but from what I remember of Ireland, you will need to provide some artificial heat...
(I was last there in 1969, & nearly froze to death in July & August...)
I have the heating system running. What temperature?
Thanks
When I asked my plasterer about temperature, he said that since plaster sets in an exothermic manner (it releases heat) the temperature can be on the cool side. 50 degrees F was fine.
BTW, did you use plasterboard designed for skim coating? Around here it is usually refered to as "blue board". Boards designed for skim coating will have a softer paper and a bonding agent already applied.
Plain drywall has a surface too hard to accept skim coating on its on.
Thanks for the feedback.
Yes, since skim coating is the norm here, I used plasterboard designed for it.

Mist the walls every two hours with Guiness from a spray bottle.
Drink any/all left-overs.

How dare you waste good Guiness!PRETEND to mist every two hours.
I don't know anything about skim coats, but I do have a question for you since your Irish.
How come I can understand you when you write, but I can't understand you when I hear you talking?
Just kidding you. Hope you get your answers.

Actually, I'm a Yank. Moved here about a year ago and have been woking on renovating our house, which overlooks the Shannon near the west coast of Ireland.
Yes, sometimes I think an Irishman is speaking Gaelic, only to find out later that he was talking to me in English. But then, the Irish sometimes have trouble understanding me (from the Mdwest).
Mist the walls every two hours with Guiness from a spray bottle?!! Sacrilegious! Budweiser maybe. I'll hoist one for you tomorrow:-)
Happy happy to all the lassies and boyos across the pond. I sang Danny Boy to the crew yesterday and I hit the high C as they wiped away a few tears.
