I told dw hanger to leave 1″ clearance around b-vent penetrating ceiling (NOT type x dw) He left less. Boss says dw isn’t combustible so it’s o k. Should I cut back the dw? The b-vent is run through a metal collar made for it. Thanks guys & gals.

The paper facing on drywall is somewhat combustible. Would it be too difficult to run a keyhole saw around the vent and enlarge the hole?
Do it right, or do it twice.
Can't use keyhole saw because of metal collar. I'll have to use a utility knife. I thought about my dw cutout tool but I'd probably end up with 2" clearance and look sloppy.Smile. It could be worse. You could be me working for you.
Cut it back - as noted, the paper liner is combustible. As a wood by-product, I believe paper is also subject to pyrolysis: a reduction of it's ignition point each time it's heated, so the fact that it doesn't catch fire today doesn't mean it might not tomorrow or next wek or next year.
Do a standard risk anaylsis: What's the risk? A house fire. What's the likelihood of it happening? Probably very low. What's the cost of avoiding it? Very low.
So do it.
